Our friends live only a few hundred metres from one of the most famous castles in Denmark - Valdemars Slot - so we took a few hours this morning to explore it. The castle is in the most beautiful spot on the edge of the harbour with extensive buildings around it - originally stables and gate houses. ... yrs old! Many of the streets are made of cobblestone which is very cute but hard in your butt! It was very hard to find anywhere to eat lunch because the tourist season ends about September 1 and very little was open. But we did find a lovely cafe that served traditional Danish open sandwiches so we were very happy. The island economy is mostly farming but some fishing as well.

... freezing! Once I got my breath back, I realised that I couldn't taste any salt in the water or feel any on my skin. Henning said it has a very low salt content because of the huge rivers from Russia that feed into the Baltic Sea.

... in the quite seaside village of Troense, on the island of Trasinge. Most of the houses in the village are hundreds of years old, many have thatched roofs, and all are meticulously maintained - including beautifully manicured gardens. The village even has its own castle.

We had a lovely evening dining on Kirsten's amazing cooking and catching up on all the news.

... Set out on our bikes to the next town (going back toward the town we were in) called Aeroscobing. What an amazing village! Enjoyed lunch there and then pedalled back to camp. All in all about 30 klms, the only downfall was the winds were about 60 klm per hour....crazy wind. We have added pictures but they will never do justice to the beauty of this island.
