One Last Patriot

... so much last year as such a man of wisdom. He spoke at the local theatre and although free - you needed tickets. I got them, but we left early as I was anxious about getting to our flight in time. Newport News though is very close and such a small airport it takes practically no time to drop off car and go through security.

Flew to Charlotte first then had to get on another plane - across the airport with 15 ...

Jamestown and The Powhatan Indians

Today was the prettiest day yet. Sunny, warm and the leaves are at their peak. I feel so lucky to be here today. Jamestown Settlemant and Historic Site are close to each other and often confused. As the site is still a work in progress - next door are the replicas of the settlement. Here we see how the Powhatan Indians lived and worked and the influence ...

Meeting Mr. Jefferson

The day starts with meeting Mr. Jefferson. I'm told his wife left him as he takes his role quite seriously - too much so I suppose. Still, I wasn't able to meet him last year due to schedules and make a point to do so this visit. We sit on the wet benches behind The Governor's Palace in The Gardens as it's early in the day and it rained the previous evening. Still, it's a ...

Martha you look lovely for your age!

... and it is a source of discourse in her marriage. She came from great wealth and someone has to run the farm. I get the feeling George was a hard to please owner and expected much from others as well as himself. There is no question though - they didn't spend a lot of time together and maybe that's the secret to a good marriage....hmmmm

The Scream Zone

... scared, she loved it and had to call home on her cell to tell her father that she had just survived her first haunted house and loved it. The screams of The Griffon were in the background and I'm sure my husband wondered what was going on, but was pleased Melissa was so happy. No more texting friends today how BORED she was!

Returned to our B&B which I stayed at last year and were quite familiar with ...

Mt. Vernon and Peanut Soup

Took a cab to Union Station to pick up our rental car for our trip to Mt. Vernon. Rainy day, but that's okay as we'll be inside or driving much of the day. Toured the house, saw the museums, and ate at the Inn - Peanut Soup and Apple Pie. Peanut Soup tasted like, well - peanut butter. They gave me the recipe although I didn't really want it. Mt. Vernon is incredible as it sits on The ...

The educational part of my vacation.

Woke up not too early, made coffee in the room and leisurely got ready for the day. Hubby and I walked over to Historical Williamsburg to see the sights, learn about life when Williamsburg was at its peak, and shop a bit. We loved all the tours and talking with the very knowledgeable town's folk. If you go to Williamsburg, make sure to take some tours and ask questions of the people in the different shops. You will learn a lot.
<br ...

Jury Duty

... or prepare for their shaving or if you were a girl or a lady you might be interested in having your hair ironed with curls as it wasn't proper for women to show their hair then. Audrey was mesmerized and didn't want to leave her shop as the woman busied herself making a wig while talking to her customers. We visited Anderson's blacksmith. Interestingly enough, Clark's grandfather was a blacksmith and his shop looked very similar to ...

Jamestown

We got up early for our visit to Jamestown. We went to the original settlement first and wandered around. It's only been relatively recent that the site of the original settlement has been discovered. It was thought to have been lost, or in the sea. There are ongoing excavations (in warmer weather, not March) going on and ...

Day 3

... the golf course literally in my backyard, and the James River just beyond that. It is beautiful! And the weather is absolutely perfect. Not too hot, not too cool, and cloudy but not rainy. We had dinner at the resort at a restaurant called Regatta's; it was priced as you would think that resort food would be, but it was delicious. I had the chicken caesar salad, and we had a mocha ...
