Vancouver

This morning left Lytton about 9-30am. Not in a hurry to ever visit there again! Set out to drive to Vancouver. The road ran along side the mighty Fraser River and the scenery was fine, the river and the pine-covered mountains along the way. Went through the town of Hope which led to inevitable puns about living in Hope and the town which springs eternal!!. Once on the Freeway it was an easy but boring drive into Vancouver. With the help of my magnificent map reading Fletcher navigated his wa...

Packing: T-minus 1 day

Nothing interesting here yet, just making notes to remind myself what to find/buy tomorrow. I still need: - small towel - mesh or tote bag - comb - multi-purpose shoelaces Packed and repacked everything else already, got rid of extra weight in the form of duplicate articles of clothes. Extra hooks, straps, and 4-sided Velcro fasteners. Malaria vaccine and two full treatments for E.Coli (mentioned that to subtly convince those who ...

Recap on USA (w/ photos), and intro to my new home

... the canyon so you look down over a massive 4000-foot drop. We went to Guano Point (yes, Guano...as in bat droppings!!) where we went on a little stroll to the dropoff. And then it was off to the Hualapai ranch where we saw a mock-up little cowboy town. The drive through the Joshua Tree forest was beautiful, and the Hoover Dam was impressive (especially with their current construction of a suspension bridge). We were very ...

Granville island

... their moose tour and it turns out they are on the same trekamerica tour and Ben and myself so it was great meeting them. They dont know eachother from England but happen to be on the same Moose tour and same trekamerica tour!! Lucy and Bex settled into the hostel whilst we walked over Granville bridge. Celene and Christie are staying on this side of the bridge so they went back to their hotel whilst Ben, Peggy and myself walked around the seawall. Again it ...

"Welcome Back Home" !

... that's always made me proud of being Canadian! The bright, expansive and ultra-modern terminal with it's huge Inuit carving and waterfall which follows you down the escalator, offers a soothing and relaxing feeling before meeting the Customs & Immigration Officers. It was only minutes before we found ourselves standing in front of a Customs Officer. With both Elsie and I standing in front of the officer, he ...

How does one get lost in a park with a sea wall??

... sea wall and followed it. We thought we were further north, but here we were on the south part walking north and walked more than we had planned; a lot more! The 9 o'clock gun, Harry Jerome (Olympic runner) statue and Deadman's Island were what we passed along our walk. The Brockton Point Lighthouse was what made us realize we started on the south end of the sea wall instead of the north, meaning we would have to walk back! We wanted to see the Girl in the Wetsuit statue ...

Oh Canada - Vancouver It Is....

February 6, 2008 Flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong was uneventful. Able to check our bags all the way from bangkok to Vancouver even tho we were on 2 different carriers and had to get Air Canada boarding passes in Hong Kong at the airport. It was pretty seamless as the AC counter was en-route to the departure gate. Had a bit of time to kill, so we grabbed a cocktail and bite to eat before heading to our gate. Checked out some stores along the way and grabbed some ...

Rain? In Vancouver? Imagine that.

... at Steamworks brewpub for a couple of pints (I'm on vacation, after all), and was greeted by a server who assumed that a) I don't like beer, b) the only beer I might like is fruity. Apparently he's never met a girl who knows anything about anything before. I managed to get a pint of IPA and a stout (I'll show you girly beer!) and while away a bit of time before heading back into the rain. And speaking of rain. I think breakfast starts at 0800 and I'm hungry.

Nervous and Excited ...

We're leaving in 4 hours!!! I just finished downloading some mp3s onto my player, and James and I are back to my place to pick up Dad and boxes. To think that a couple months ago, I was imagining what today would look like. Not so much last minute scrambling as I thought, which helps. So I guess this is it! Next post will be in the Philippines!!

Go West, Young Woman!

... Gee, honey, look at that tree.....isn't it neat?!!' Scott and I followed the baseball cap peak of the intrepid Am**icano travell** and saw, well, a tree that was probably pretty similar to any oth** tree. But that was just the start of it. During our tour round the rain-soaked city we had .....'awesome!' alt**nating with 'kinda neat!' ev**y second sentence. For some reason (most likely its distance from Alaska) we didn't encount** a single Am**ican tourist in Winnipeg ...
