... he was the Fonz! The 60s room was very hippie. Black lights, glow paint and a VW van. The last room was made to look like a drive in movie theater and showed a documentary on Route 66. Apparently you can't drive the entire road anymore because some of it has been over grown by fields. We got back in the car and headed into Texas. No sooner had we entered than we found another interesting ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States funkinthetrunkFor the romantic, the legend says that Tocum lost the battle for Cari's hand, at which point Cari killed herself. Her father the chief, distraught over this turn of events, also killed himself saying "Tocum-Cari, Tocum-Cari". It's probably some mundane thing like lookoutpoint, or buffalo hunt, but for the dreamer in us. Having left Ok City early this ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States 7x70on66... beans and corn were the home-spun meal Jose Luis was looking for, while the Chicken fajitas hit the spot for me. Interesting that this was another dry town, no wine, beer, just ice tea or sodas. We will be heading through Arizona tomorrow with our last stop before we arrive in Las Vegas
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States pawelek... route 66 being the midpoint between Chicago 1139 miles north to Los Angeles West, 1139. At this point, there is a roadside cafe, surviving the time warp, and still has the Formica tables and chair sets from the 60's and the cafe table with the vinyl seats alongside the windows. As we pulled in, (we had been advised at the visitors centre that this Cafe closed at 2pm) at 2:25pm, the owner was just turning the sign around to closed, but left it as open when we pulled in. The ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States popusa2008... and the other half driving east to see historic Route 66, we were able to drive straight to Tucumcari. We ate at a diner, cancelled our reservation at the Blue Swallow Motel, and checked out Teepee Curios. We even had time for the Mesa Dinosaur Museum, which was a lot of fun. With plenty of time still left in the day, we started out from Tucumcari back west. At this point, we were both really feeling the ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States sarahl56Now we officially started our Route 66 self-guided tour. We began from Tucumcari, NM with the hopes of checking out their dinosaur museum. Unfortunately, the museum was closed due to it being a Monday as well as a holiday. The rest of the city was not impressive so we decided to move on back to TX via the historic Route 66.
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States fishy979Of all the neon signs along 66, this one is probably the most famous. Even people not that familiar with 66 might recognize this one. Unfortunatley, we pulled in for the night and the sign is turned off. We new that the hotel was closed until spring but hoped it ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States ramblinraaschIt is a beautiful cool morning in New Mexico. The winds died down sometime during the night. I turned on the air conditioner to create white noise so I could sleep. Right now I am watching the cows make their way across a field in front of my cabin. The calves are kicking up their heels to play. I ...

I am off to Oklahoma City tomorrow to see a wonderful friend I met in 1974. Yeah Diane. Then off to Ft. Worth area to meet with my cousin and see my niece for the first time. Then Tennessee and hopefully Boone.
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States tonalgrace... we know it, with squares, streets with shops, some churches etc. Santa Fe in particular, and the nearby Taos, were a common destination for hippies, and the atmosphere still exists in a way. Taos is also famous for the Pueblo, an old Indian village.
