Dinner with Laine

Today basically, I just worked and then we met up with Laine in the afternoon. We picked Bangkok Garden, a restaurant just around the corner because it had mediocre reviews on TripAdvisor. It turned out to be really great (if expensive).

We went to bed really early zzzz.

By the way, we got a great deal from Hotels.com for our hotel, BTW. Props to my employee discount once again!

Toronto

... Approx 15min walk all in all. Whereas the locals were desperate to stay inside away from the frost-biting snow, David and I were revelling in the fluffy white stuff and couldn't wait to get back outside! As we emerged from the Skywalk, David said "wow! Look at it!" I spun my head like an owl and said "what?!" and at the sight of a big concrete post to my side, I slowly raised my eyes to the sky and shouted "oh it's here!!" I didn't realise the CN Tower was right beside ...

Take Me Back to Square One

... city hall first. it was a random thing that was hiding behind a bigger building and seemed to appear out of nowhere. The visitor center happened to be right there too, which had attraction maps, which were a lot easier to read street signs and find what i was looking for. So from City Hall plaza I walked to the Hockey Hall of Fame. I was all gunghoe about taking the tour but I came down to earth & realized 1) I don't follow hockey 2) i don't like hockey 3) it was 2 hours ...

Toronto show day

... Ok, I'm wrapping this one up - be sure and ask me about my new theories of females on the road!! Added some more thoughts at this show. And I'm still going back and forth on the faux hawk and the tat...yikes! Obviously, a haircut is not permanent so that should be an easier one. I really want the tat as it has come to mean even more to me but still think I'm commitment phobic in ALL aspects of my life. Well, that I was signing off but wanted ...

Dyke Day at Pride Week Toronto, '08

... up some of this stuff and somebody from the Canadian Cancer Society made me a funny hat to wear. The point was to make me aware of the danger the sun has on my skin, or so she said. I think she probably had an ulterior motive, but that's just me. Soon, it was just about time for the "Dyke Parade". I guess the women felt like they had to have their own parade a day before the guys did. It's kind of dumb because they are always welcome to show up to the Pride Parade on ...

The festival and the serendipitous after party...

... me off at the Scarborough Town Centre, so I took a bus straight downtown to the Holiday Inn (rockstar headquarters) to pick up my wristband. Note to self: don't bother ordering things on the internet anymore, the service charges are pointless. I could've saved $3 if I just bought my wristband there at the hotel. Stupid jerks. So I didn't have my confirmation number and they got all flustered because they didn't know how to find out if I actually paid or not. It took a ...

Recaps and thoughts for those who follow....

... and when in Europe, and my post-Europe thoughts. For those of you who haven't gone on your own Eurotrip or anywhere else: I have but one word for you: Go. Drop everything and just go. Thats exactly what I did. Even filing a leave of absence from work was the last thing on my mind as I paid for my non-refundable air and rail tickets, and I already made up my mind to quit if they didn't give me my request for leave. Despite a few very good ...

On the Road in 2007: Toronto

... Argonauts being the most well-known). Walking in any direction from the hotel, one could see the diversity of the city through its architecture. Many of the buildings are home to national and international corporate offices. The Toronto Stock Exchange (sixth largest in the world) is a central player in Toronto’s status as the economic hub of Canada. Toronto has often been referred to as a global city with over 100 languages and dialects ...

... that she works. It's funny how laid back and nonchalant everyone there is... so many people I know would die to work there. Patrick works in her section and I find this really funny. I'm not sure why. I suppose it only makes sence that people from the same library school are going to work together. What's too bad tho is that Patrick is really starting to hate his job. He's been doing a lot of moving things around. I don't know if library school prepares you for this but ...

Home is a 1st World Country

... and that its not the other way around. As the plane touched down on the landing strip in Toronto, I cried. I felt guilt, or joy, or sadness, or anger, or a whole mix of it, I dont know. I was back in the same old Canada, but I wasn't the same old Julie. I can't be, not after what I have seen. And I don't know if its a good thing or a bad thing.
