... skies and sunshine. Then we went into San Francisco where our first stop was at the painted ladies houses which apparently were made famous by the show full house but I didn't recognise them. Instead I took in the views of the city from Alamo square which is on a rise so you can look down across the rest of the city. On Thursday Di and I spent a day rambling around the lovely little town of San Rafael. This included seeing lots of art: the home studios of friends, Bob and Judy, Judith and Barb, whose studi is located in a whole building of artists' studio. All four are amazing creative people and it was a real treat to see their work.

... where you could have a spectacular picnic. There is also a very nice campsite. My map showed a Shoreline Trail winding its way back through the hills so I decided to try the off-road route for the return journey since Dave's bike had the fat tires.

So much fun! I felt like I was 12 again, zipping up and down the hilly dirt trail through stands ...

... had never painted anything. During the film he consults with David Hockney who wrote a book "Secret Knowledge" speculating about Vemeeer's use of optics.

On on the way home we hit one of my favorite stores, Trader Joe's and loaded up on yummy provisions for dinner and for dessert we had grilled pineapple with rum with our very fresh, homemade mascarpone cheese. Delicious!
