Today we drove up to Clumber Park. 4000 acres of gardens and woods once the home to the Dukes of Newcastle. A Day Trip
... squadron. The oldest crew member was 23, the youngest 19. On the way back to base it was diverted to another airfield. On the way there an engine caught fire and the plane crashed killing all 7 crew members. They had never seen any action. War is such a waste of life in any circumstances but to die in training seems to make the loss all the more tragic.
