... s a beautiful day for a drive! We do most of the drive straight up the M1 but as we near traffic at a stand still we decide to take the A road. This is the England we have come to see. Beautiful green rolling hills sectioned by grey walls - making the perfect patchwork. Mr S stopped in at the Great Central Railway at Loughborough to see the station and found Mr S' first LMS carriage, which he told me was an Inspectors Saloon - he may or may not have 'whooped' out loud! We started off the day with another great English breakfast. What is great is that every place has a lot of veggie options so eggs, veggie sausage, grilled tomatoes and beans. Yum. ... Things become more industrial on the approach to Middlewich with the huge British Salt works dominating the landscape. The canal on the approach to Middlewich is very wide. A quick visit to Kings Mill Chandlery for a bit of rope and some screws, oh and directions to the nearest supermarket. Through Kings Lock and immediately left under the narrow bridge into the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union. Moored up and took a walk in the rain to ...

    A bit passed Middlewich

After two days in Middlewich - pressed on a bit. I actually finished up 1.4 miles from where I started - although double that by canal - and had the engine running for 3 hours.

As I was thinking about setting off a boat with a load of nutters on board came roaring past banging the boat about and knocking things onto the floor. It missed me by about 3 inches. They'd come through the Big Lock - a 14ft wide lock - the only one round here - hence the ...
