Overton, England, United Kingdom chiangmaigreg... so-to-speak.

We found it hard to get our head around the way Wigan was so much "into" Halloween. Everywhere we went there were fake skulls and skeletons, witches 'hair' and scary things hanging up. At our restaurant when the waiter came up to us, I nearly fell off my chair. I had to say to him, "I'm sorry, I'm finding it hard to get past all the (fake) blood over your face and white shirt to make an order!!" His face ...
Wigan, England, United Kingdom pollies... because it is really cold here. It's July and Justin and I are walking around in pants and sweatshirts. I never realized before how far north the UK is and am still in shock with how people live here year around if their summers are this cold. They are stronger than I.

Today we're walking around more of Liverpool to see what's around. We're doing a Taste of Liverpool self-guided tour today were we stop at all the street stands and share ...
Liverpool, England, United Kingdom ladysado... donair from pulled out a map and along with her 5 year old son, we plotted my path to the hostel. When I finally got there, I learned I would have to take a taxi in the morning, no buses ran at 5am on a Sunday. I had to go get cash from an ATM line up that number probably 10 drunk people, looking for more money to buy beer. It was a Saturday, but I strayed off any temptation to get even a drink. I took a shower ...
Liverpool, England, United Kingdom dhrycun... to meet a friend of Emilys. There are I think 7 total roommates, all of which are of different nationalities. But they all have friends or girlfriends/boyfriends over so its always a full house and seems like there are a lot of things going on. Everyone knows english so that is the common language, but a lot of them know eachothers origional languages too, so everyone once in a while you will hear random conversations in a different ...
Liverpool, United Kingdom janellh... and retort - "What? you wake me up to look at some ice cubes?" Looking back I guess they did look small from 30,000 feet but I thought it was kind of cute. It took almost as long to cross Canada as it did to cross the Atlantic - it's a Big country! Lost baggage Calgary airport was fine nice people to meet you off of the plane - with cowboy hats and pink neckerchiefs (motto for the stampede is "are you tough enough to wear pink" ??) Over and above the 3 ...
Liverpool, United Kingdom richandbonnie... walk along the River Mersey it began raining rather heavy, so from there we went to see Mathew Street as it is today and sat in a pub that the Beatles used to drink at and just soaked up the atmosphere. We wandered along Mathew Street taking in all the other tributes, and went into the Cavern Pub where many world famous bands have visited and played. Finally as it was after 8.00pm we looked around and found an open Italian restaurant ...
Liverpool, United Kingdom bandglittle... Mugabe was thought-provoking and rather troubling. Unfortunately as there are no oil supplies to be gained there, this form of terror continues unabated without international intervention.

Back in Liverpool, we spent the evening in a couple of pubs around Mathew Street and the Cavern Club, getting the full appreciation of the Beatles cashing-in that is going on in the city. I wonder how much more cultured this milking could possibly be come 2008.
