LA and Vegas Baby!

... bland but huge, but instead I’ll mention the tax and tipping. Everything has tax added on at the counter, nothing costs what is advertised and this includes food, beverages, clothes, essentials etc, so you never know how much you owe until you get to the counter or your bill (check) comes and especially if you are splitting the bill it gets all confusing and then there is the tipping. You have to tip everyone from the bellboy to housekeeping, from your waitress to ...

Take Off, Touch Down and Get Moving

... who is also doing her part for the international recovery by visiting LA and San Diego at the same time our itinerary has us there. On to more serious economic matters, although Qantas continues to advertise daily flights BNE-LA, they are cancelling them at a pretty ferocious rate. They had cancelled the flight on the preceding day which did allow them to fill up our plane. They also cut back a bit on the in-flight luxuries ...

Update on Life on board

We are having a great time on board. Always something to do so we never get bored. We have met up with some nice people who we take part in the various quizzes with - we have even won one and I (would you believe it) managed to answer the tie-breaker. We won some vouchers which we will be able to exchange for some Cunard goodies at the end of the voyage. We have seen lots of wildlife, especially dolphins and ...

Southern California (and Mexico)

... in Los Angeles and indeed in the USA with Anna and Iain - who had flown there the previous day. Iain is a pilot with BA so he had actually flown there, while Anna got to relax in first class! We left our hostel in style with Anna picking us up in a convertible! She took us down Rodeo Drive, before heading to teh infamous Beverley Hills hotel where we stopped for some afternoon cocktails (as you do!). Iain then took over the driving and took us up the coast ...

Highway 1 - The Coast Road........................

... heading down the 'Avenue of Giants' or as it was christened by me, mistakenly (and Kash keeps taking the ****) 'Alley of Titans'!! This was a 35 mile drive through more redwood forest, made for a better drive than just the end of Highway 101. We found the start of H1 and as we approached the coast realised that the sun and Californian Coast, during August didn't really go hand in hand. The sea mist was always prevalent and reduced temperatures significantly. Regardless we ...

Flying Solo

... before the plane had been called to board. Oops! So I'm finally on board, sitting in my economy class window seat (I believe that it was 13A or some such thing). When I had first recieved my flight itinerary, it said that my flight left Toronto at 18.10 and arrived at 21.35. I thought that my flight would therefore only be approximately 3 hours...WRONG! It turned out my flight was 5 and a half to 6 hours long. What ever happened to time change when I was ...

In Crazy LA for a few days

... You tended to cue for about 15-20 miuntes then went on for between 5 and 30 minutes. We followed the suggested itinerary and went around the park as follows: => Shrek-4D = Cool 3D film experience with moving chairs and an extra dimensional supprise. => Studio Tour = Interesting 45 min drive round the film lots and studio's. => Back to the Future = Amazing 3-Dimensional Experience where you sit in a car and don't actually move an inch forward but really feel ...
