Sydney - 13/3/09 to 25/3/09

We returned to Sydney for our last 2 weeks in Sydney and booked into the Travelodge (our budget couldn't quite stretch to the Vibe for 2 weeks - 20/2/09 - 22/2/09 entry) and collected our luggage all safe and sound from the Backpackers centre (20/2/09 - 22/2/09 entry). Our 2 weeks in Sydney was action packed as followed: Hello Sailor (14/3/09) It was Navy Day on the first weekend of our return and the city was full of Sailors in very smart uniforms. There was a big parade around the main stre...

Down Under in the southern hemisphere

we arrived after an 8 hour flight on the most fantastic airline who offered innumerable bottles of wine as long as you looked sober. we had seats with the most fantastic legroom and no seats in front. this must have been a sick irony for the 6ft bloke sat behind me cramped into his space. it did occur to me after we landed that i could have offered to swap seats, but i didn't. on the approach into Sydney i had a slight panic over where was the land, it appeared to be all water either side. el...

Sydney Metropole

Happy New Year from Sydney

Happy New Year to you all - thanks for all your emails and texts. New Year was unbelievable in Sydney - all started from about 12.00 noon when people were streaming through the city with their ice boxes of beers and food to get a good spot for the New Year celebrations and to see the fireworks. We had booked a NYE Cruise, which was leaving from Circular Quay at 7.00 p.m. We made sure we were down there early to soak up the atmosphere - good planning due to the crowds, etc. The bus stopped hal...

Sydney Take 2

We are now back in Sydney and have ventured further than the hospital this time!!!! Hope you all had a great Christmas. We had a lovely day. We decided against going to Bondi Beach, which was the original plan, as we went there on Xmas Eve and discovered that you were not allowed to take alchol with you (the plan was to have a picnic and a bottle of wine on the beach) and there was a huge event in the Pavilion from 12.00 noon to 2.00 a.m., but we were just out of the age category (under 25)!!...

The Peacocks fly to Australia

An eventful few days since we left Hong Kong!: Saturday 6/12/08. Left Hong Kong for Australia. Travelled to the airport by the Airport Express (train) and was amazed when we got to the train station that we could check in our luggage there and travel to the airport with just hand luggage. The girl on the check-in desk must have thought we were right dumbos as we could not get our head round the fact that our luggage was going to go all the way from the Train Station to Sydney airport, but she...

Sydney

Our two night stay in Sydney for a wedding was mostly unremarkable. Highlights: * John Howard´s former office (still empty) * Getting stuck in a shopping centre for 4 hours, courtesy of Kathmandu´s annual sale. * Making it to and from our suburban hotel by public transport. Struggling to remember how to be a backpacker. Coffee vs Beer: A tough one. I didn´t actually have any beer, but had one cup of negatively good coffee at the hotel (part of the free breakfast supposedly worth $16 - ugh). I...

4x4

Tony and Carol, two of Andrew's patients spend part of the year in Sydney having lived there for many years. They have a gorgeous apartment overlooking the harbour. We all drove up to the Blue Mountains in their 4x4. They were able to show us places off the main tourist route. Some of the public roads were designated 4x4 only and involved clambering in and out of significant gullies. Carol had prepared a great picnic. Tony made coffee on a bush kettle, a water heater that can be fuelled by dr...

Walking the Manly way

We board the Manly Ferry (the Girlie one being full, ha,ha) for the 7mile journey to Manly just north of the harbour entrance. It is a Sunday, so the beach is busy with surfers, swimming clubs and beach volleyball tournaments. After an early lunch, we head off round the coast. There is a good path south to the harbour entrance with great clifftop views. At the visitor's centre, we identify the bandicoots, skinks and kookaburras that have crossed our path so far. Back through Manly, we pick up...

Watson's Bay

We walk for about 2 miles looking for the Paddington market and eventually stumble upon it more by good fortune than any map reading skill. The market is held every Saturday in a school playground. There is a range of stalls selling everything from clothes to crystals. In the afternoon, we take the ferry from Cenral Quay to Watson's Bay passing harbourside communities, yachts etc. On the recommendation of yesterday's bridge guide, we have fish and chips in Doyle's restaurant. We walk round th...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Travelodge Hotel Sydney

Nicely Renovated but Poor Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Travelodge Sydney provides basic accomodations at a fair price. The hotel appears to be recently renovated with clean well kept rooms. They have skimped to a great degree through. Two bath towels are provided. There are no hand towels or face cloths at all. Furthermore, housekeeping never replenished the soap or shampoo during a 5 day stay. We had to ask for it, and troop down to the front desk to get it.

Service at the reception desk is poor. We waited over 30 minutes to be checked in due to a large Kon Tiki tour being checked in, one by one. There appeared to be no pre-planning for tours or any procedures to deal with a large group booking leaving us (and others) standing in line to be checked in.

Finally, they required a $50 hold on my credit card. I was surprised to find when I received by credit card statement, that they had charged my the deposit amount. I am chasing up on this though I've not received a response yet.

McDonald's of Hotels

from A TripAdvisor Member
Good tourist class hotel. Don't expect the Ritz. Good central location. Very good value. Rooms are minimal but clean and functional. You'll feel like a hamburger at McDonalds as there is considerable goings in and out.

Convenient Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Clean, modern hotel with large rooms and a convenient, central location. The hotel is less than five minutes walk from Museum station (this is on the airport line) and about a ten minute walk to the Chinatown end of Pitt Street. Although the immediate vicinity is a bit desolate it does not feel threatening. I would definitely stay here again.

Good value, good location

from McBoot
Sydney Travelodge doesn't offer any frills, but the rooms are large and comfortable and they're very good value. The hotel is very well placed for all of Sydney's attractions, being just a minute from Hyde Park. Check out can be completely chaotic though due to the sheer number of people and a very limited counter staff.

I recommend it

from KatherineNZ
Excellent value, a large comfortable room and helpful staff. Walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go. Usually I stay with my brother in Sydney unless I want to be right in among the action and I would stay here again.

Good value

Stayed at the Travelodge earlier this year. No-frills, but for $100 (last-minute rate) was very good value for money. Great location, good breakfast and friendly service. Would definitely stay again.

Location, location, location

My husband and I stayed at this hotel from december 30th, 2003 to January 8th, 2004. The hotel is a 3 minute walk to beautiful Hyde Park, 10 to Chinatown and Darling Harbour, 20 to Circular Quay, near shops and good restaurants. Staff was very helpful, as there was a mistake made at booking, they gave us a room with twin beds. They assigned us another room on the spot. The location was great, the room was nice and clean. I would certainly go back to this hotel.

Great value

I've stayed at the Wentworth Travelodge twice now and both times have been excellent. The hotel is a five minute walk from the train station and handy to the downtown/CBD area.

It is very much a business or travel hotel - it's not pretending to be anything other than simple, clean, funtional & comfortable rooms at good prices. On that basis, it's excellent. For Sydney (and the levels of "service" you usually find) it's fantastic.

Great location, great buy.

from GayTwosome
The two of us stayed at the Travelodge on Wentworth for 2 weeks in February including during the Gay Mardi Gras. The location is fantastic--one block from Hyde Park, the CBD, and Oxford Street. The room was not large but very modern and clean, and the 24hr service at the front desk was professional and always friendly. We found the room on needitnow where you can book up to a 10 day stay for incredible rates. Also, any day you don't have the time to get to the beach, try the Aquatic Center just a few blocks up the street. For $3.00 you can sun and swim in some excellent company, and the dim sum restaurant in the same facility was a hidden but wonderful surprise.

Good value for the money

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Travelodge in February 2003. It is a large (406 rooms) tourist hotel. The hotel is about a block off Oxford St near Hyde Park, and within walking distance or a short bus or train ride to the Harbour and George St. You can also catch the bus to Bondi Beach on Oxford St. There are guest laundry facilities on every other floor. The room had a microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker, and kitchenette sink. There is also a set of dishes and cutlery in every room, which is a nice touch. The hotel is not fancy, but for a clean, comfortable place to stay at a reasonable price, I recommend it.
