It was a fairly relaxed drive to Golden, we stopped on the way at De Dutchmans Dairy and sampled the delights of their icecream. We then headed through more beautiful landscape to Golden, where we spent just one night. We did a little shopping in their stores (there weren't many) and we had dinner in a pizza place across the road. Samantha enjoyed her drink on her lap here. The next morning we Hit the road and headed for Calgary via lake Louise. Lake Louise was spectacular and we would recomm...

East Gate, British Columbia, Canada shemo... fruit, salad, and a big cookie for dessert. After lunch the guides gave an equipment orientation. We were outfitted with wet suit, fleece sweater, splash jacket, river shoes, helmet, gloves, and life jacket. We put on our gear and headed for the rafts. Our group consisted of three rafts with six people each, plus guide. At riverside we learned the guide's instructions, how to deal with various situations, and how best to stay in the raft and ...
Golden, British Columbia, Canada 2jgstl... reflecting the glacier on the mountain above.

From there we headed back into Yoho to the viewpoint for the spiral railroad tunnel. When they built the Canadian Pacific Railroad through here, they had a 4.5% grade. It took 4 engines to push 15 freight cars up the mountain, and several trains were lost as runaways on the downhill direction. Eventually, they copied a Swiss design for two spiral tunnels, and lowered the slope to a 2.5% grade ...
Golden, British Columbia, Canada 2jgstlIt was a short drive from Canyon Hot Springs to Whispering Spruce Campground in Golden, BC, just southwest of Yoho National Park. As usual, Jane went in to register while Jim unhitched the car. As Jim pulled the pins on the tow bar, he felt something quite wet. He turned around and saw coolant (anti-freeze) dripping from the motor home's engine compartment. It turned out to be a hole in the large hose that ...
Golden, British Columbia, Canada 2jgstl... was pretty nackered as it was about 4 in the morning English time! So we made our way to the bus and set off for our 4 hour drive to Golden. The roads were quite bad so we had to go slow. We arrived at Alpen Rose our first final destination, - and our home for the next three months at 1.00am, or 8.00am English time. As you can imagine, we fell asleep quickly! We woke up on Sunday, still tired and jet lagged, in a really quaint little cabin ...
Golden, British Columbia, Canada karen_chairhead... Work is....alright. I don't know. It's still a bit boring. Not sure what that means yet. Banff is under total construction at the moment which is unfortunate. The whole main strip (Banff Ave.) is being ripped up to fix the water pipes and the redo the sidewalks and such to make it prettier. It's called Banff Refreshing, but not so refreshing with dust and dirt blowing around and the sound of diggers scraping away at concrete. Yeah ...
Banff, Alberta, Canada steph_444Woke up feeling a lot better than yesterday! We decided to head to Sunshine for our last day of skiing. Once again the view was spectacular! Feeling rather ambitious, we attempted a black diamond. I mean, how hard could it be once we had mastered the snow plough?! We're thinking ...
Banff, Alberta, Canada quesnelc... ride. Along the way we saw a waterfall and other spectacular scenary. At night we had a nice treat and went swimming in a hot spring. On July 11th we took a tour and rode the Sulphur Mountain Gondola. From the top of the mountain we had a great view of all of Banff. At night we went back to the hot springs.
