Travelodge Fort Mcmurray

We made it home safely. The -21 C temperature coming off the plane last night was a little bit of a shock to the system. We were delayed by the snow in Toronto but luckily the held our flight from Edmonton to Fort Mac for us. We look forward to seeing everyone again and sharing a few pictures with you. André & Gina

Alright, so after spending most of the night watching the Broncos get blown out, I am pretty much done packing. Follow along with our trip as Gina and I head out to the long lost continent of Madagascar. I'll try to keep the blog up to date as best as I can based on internet availability. The cab comes at 4:30am...time for bed. André

Still at work in Fort McMurray, just counting down the days. The days are already getting noticeably shorter. The days of 24 daylight are over. The mornings are getting crisper. Fall is definitely on it's way. I think Chase has lost his mind up at Diavik. We're ready for a vacation!!

As we pack our bags, check our lists and get things in order it is only a week before we leave. This entry is to serve only as a test that this blog and the address book is working. We hope to be able to do some entries once we leave on our journey. Downloading pictures may be a bit hopeful but we will try!! The countdown is on L

So, for anyone who knows me, it's clear that I would be most content while wandering the world somewhat aimlessly. Well, my friends, it's finally going to happen! Upon rescuing Chris from North Dakota in August and then going on our wacky whirlwind tour through the North Western US and Alberta - seeing some beautiful National Parks, doing lots of wildlife spotting, camping out both at campsites and in the car, wandering through dinosaur remains, moving in with friends ...

Hey guys, long time since my last entry. Not much has happened with work, just that we haven't had a car this shift because we brought it in for repairs and they seized it because it was unsafe to drive. Apparently Canadian Tire in London replaced the bearing wrong in the front right tire and it stripped everything around it and messed up a lot of stuff. $1000 worth of repairs to ...

... the only injury was minor...Sierra popped blood vessels in her foot and needs to keep off of it for 2 days so she won't be going back to work until Thursday. After cliff jumping, we were feeling spontanious, so we headed off to Banff to visit the Hot Springs there. We stayed until it closed at 11pm and then half of us stayed in Calgary while 4 of us went back to ...

... which is probably one of the dirtiest places to work in the plant. At the end of the day you're covered in Coke Dust. Sierra and I have been firewatching (basically standing around watching other people work making sure that no sparks catch anything on fire) and lathing (attaching metal cages onto steel beams before pyrocreet and cement is put over top). We should be doing more interesting stuff ...

In construction it is a game of fit in or..... I have spent a lot of time and energy on the former. I have decided this week that it it not working. I have struggled to accomodate. Now...now I try the the later part of that phrase. I crazily suspect it may assist the former part in ways the direct approach never could. Today...today I make the rules.

After a uneventful flight we arrived safely at the IAH airport. We checked to see if there was anyplace that we could store our bags at for the 12 hour layover with no luck. It seems that ever sense Sept. 11 all of the airport has closed down left luggage facilites. We decided to go and see what Huston was all about. We caught a bus that took us "Downtown". First on our list was Breakfast.
