... But it's gradually become more natural to speak English again. As for getting up to speed with new words and phrases, I think the only one I'll take with me is "pop-up shop" (in my day, we just called it a market and weren't too fussy about whether it was temporary or permanent). ... blind. I have to literally pause her film, wave my hands in front of her eyes and even resorted to poking her arm when she didn't respond to me talking to her. I seriously gotta pee and now she's asleep. ... concept of not having both double glazing and central heating (many, as I do, have triple glazing and very efficient central heating, especially in urban areas) so I understand why some of you may be scratching your heads in puzzlement. But this is the reality for many in the UK, and a lot of older people suffer a great deal each winter due to a lack of insulation, heating and adequate glazing.
