We hit London soil about 4pm (yes...lovely AreLingus did a great job of delaying our flight once again!). Ali came alive.....I think she really likes big bustling cities! We found our way to the travelodge and then went out for a meal then a couple of drinks. It was warmer than Ireland but still very overcast and rainy.
Dries has let us know that putting up pics of his and Paula's bikes is no problem. So we've got a couple of shots on this page from our stay in Wezup. Lovely old British singles as well as an ex Dutch army Triumph and an XS650 project. We don't have a photo of Paula's (it was under a tarp) but it's a very tidy Sportster.

This trip was a reward for 13 year old Katie who kept her promise to improve on her grades at school - Well done Katie.
Me and my older brother decided to go to London to watch a Paralympic event (but more on that later...) because I had missed the Olympics as I was on holiday in Scotland for the entire duration of it (literally, I left on the day of the opening ceremony and came back on the day of the closing ceremony).

The trip started a nightmare - broken suitcase, train door closing on Rach and my scarf getting soaked. Things picked up with a Nando's though and then we began the long haul (1.5 miles) from London Euston to the hotel, made a slog by the lack of wheels on the suitcase! Shabby and tatty
We booked a family room this Easter which turned out to be shabby and tatty. Veneer had been pulled off the furniture and wallpaper off the walls. The door key would not work as well. When we complained we were given new rooms but not a family one. The bathroom basin in our room was blocked and smelled. The brochure description is a total misrepresentation of the hotel and the only thing that it has going for it is its centrality.
Dont go there
All the rooms need refurbishing and any rooms that had been broken into the doors really do need to be repaired or completely changed. We will definately not be going back its certainly not a 4* rating.

'After some worrying reviews on this site about Moat House Drury Lane, I found that my stay could not have been more pleasant. My Crown Executive room was roomy and modern with a large double bed, air con, CD and a double sofa just right for spending some time out of the uncharacteristic London snow in January. Full English breakfast set me up for the day and a ten minute walk saw me in Leicester Square, the heart of food, cinema and theatreland. The staff were welcoming even when I arrived at midnight and housekeeping was especially attentive. I could not fault the Moat House Drury Lane'
Room was tatty, not like the brochure. Staff did not seem interested when the door lock on the room stopped working at 10.30 in the evening and for the whole of the next day we had to wait for someone to let us into the room despite the fact they kept telling us it would be fixed in the next half hour (it still hadn't been fixed when we checked out).
I agree with the previous comment about the bar having no atmosphere and the ran out of breakfast at 9.45 on sunday when it should go on until 10.30.
Nowhere near being a 4* hotel in my opinion.
Kind of dreary, but great location
The best thing about the Drury Lane Moat House is the staff and its location. It's a dreary looking gray building just a short walk away from Covet Garden, minutes away from the Theatre District. The complimentary breakfast was great. The staff are extremely helpful and polite, and the room was spacious but dark, with views of construction.
We spent so little time in the room, so that didn't really bother us.

Hotel rooms are small dark and dingy,not up to 4* standard,bar miserable,breakfast limited on sunday,a lot better on monday,when most guests had left.Reception staff excellent,they need a better hotel.

very dissapointed in this hotel. room allocated to me was dingy,tatty, not at all like the write ups i read. it was supposed to be a crown exeutive so goodness knows what the standard rooms are like?spoke to one of the managers called paul who changed our room instantly, what a difference! light and obviously newly refurbished!!! the fire alarm went off 3 times, all three occasions false alarms. after all that when i received my credit card statement they had charged my card twice.
after several phone calls i was told they would credit the extra nights charge.(how kind)i explained that i would have to pay the interest as the refund wouldn't go through until the following month and was told sorry nothing could be done about that even though it was their fault!
so don't bother staying at this hotel there are better ones around for the same price and a better location.
My partner and I have just spent a weekend at the Drury Lane Moathouse after getting a cheap deal direct from Moat House themselves. The hotel is in a good location although at the boring end of Covent Garden going into Holborn. The Hotel is, well, bland! The rooms are small by London and UK standards and they reminded me of a travel lodge- no free toiletries other than the large bottles of Dove and Lux attached to the walls and one packet of biscuits on the hospitality tray that wasnt refilled the next day. We were on a dinner bed and breakfast package and my advice would be to stick to bed and breakfast only. There are a multitude of restaurants outside the hotel and in the local area and the menu we were offered was the same on both nights- a choice of 3 starters, three mains and 3 desserts and I had exactly the same meal on both nights- melon, salmon and new potatoes and fruit salad. Hmmm..they need to sort that out really as most people would like a wider variety!
The in-room air con was noisy but not particularly efficient and there was a lot of outside noise when you had your windows open. We had no view at all, but I suppose that some of the rooms on the higher floors may have faired a little better in that respect. Restaurant staff were very pleasant although I found the check in clerk rather rude and disinterested and they insist that you pay up front when you arrive.
There is a nice lobby with papers to read and leaflets about attractions nearby, but overall we were very underwhelmed. There are many great deals out there so I would suggest trying the Westbury on Bond Street or the Lowndes in Belgravia if you can..much much better!
Recently I visited london on a school trip, and let me say that this hotel handled some 60 teenagers wonderfully! Our rooms were huge enough to fit all luggage and even our hundreds of pounds of souveneirs! The room service was fast and delicious, although only certain item could be ordered after hours. the restaurant was affordable and had london-ish cuisine that you can't get here in the states. All personel were ready and willing to assist us in planning our adventures and even helped us get back into the building after hours when we forgot our room key. i would highly reccomend it. ( and the rooms decorations were futuristic and silver with bold colors and great views!)
