... Oaks was alive with SUMMER and SCARLET TANAGERS. You know it is a good day when you stop taking point blank photos of these two species when you get bored with them. I filled a 32 GB card today mostly of the tanagers. There were also a ridiculous number of ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS and YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS here. At one point, I had a male grosbeak, 2 cuckoos, a male summer and a male scarlet tanager in my binoculars!!! WHAT????
... expectations were high. When we turned up it was literally a shack and not much else. As underwhelmed as were were with the establishment, we had seen nothing yet. We each ordered beef sandwiches and a Coors Light and out came, what can only be described as a complete shambles. A dirty old pile of shredded beef was wedged between two McDonalds sized buns. ... it's worth dealing with the bugs just to be in a warm spot and surrounded by the green that we Montanans refer to as summer.
We'll be moving on tomorrow to a park just south of Houston, called Brazos Bend State Park. We'll keep a sharp out for the Bend and share it with you if we find it.
