Today was all about Sunderland and my cousins there. For those that don't know, my mum was from Sunderland. She had a brother and two elder sisters. This meant quite a few cousins. We normally went down to Sunderland every year, and some of them would come up to stay with us too. It has been many many (too many) years since I have seen them, my …

We left our hotel in York quite early this morning after really not a very happy experience there. Our only plan for the day was to do our washing somewhere in York before moving on to Sunderland. We found a fantastic launderette and got everything washed and dried by 10am and were on the road! Because we didn't feel rushed we took our time and …

From York, we took a Cook's tour (James Cook lived in Whitby and served his apprenticeship in Whitby) to Whitby. We loved Whitby so we parked the car for the day and walked to the Abbey, along the river, to the fish and chip shop (Bradley's - almost as good as Barts)and to the beach. After this we headed west and North to Newcastle. We are actually 10 ml west of Newcastle.
Our accommodation is a refurb of an 1878 built stables for a local doctor's house. Very roomy.

We leave Woodbridge and head to the coast visiting a couple of little towns along the way, Pretty scary roads but beautiful countryside. We make our way north and end up in Sunderland for the night which is on the coast. It raining and almost blizzard conditions when we arrive and very difficult to find accommodation, Eventually we get some and then rooms had to change because wifi wouldn't work, Enjoyed some nice fish and chips int he new ...
