    ... to take a long time. We learned that when you make a reservation at a restaurant, many restaurants will hold that table for the entire night. It doesn’t matter if they open at 7 and the reservation is for 9 (another thing: dinner is so much later in Italy), they won’t seat anyone before you.     ... we had this experience, and so grateful for all the amazing memories we have made. And it's good to know that Bob and I can spend two weeks together, and I'm sad about going back to work and being away from him.

    ... worth the $5) for Rome/Siena/Florence/Venice and starred all of the main attractions, restaurants, parks, and neighborhoods I want to visit in those cities. I have downloaded all of Rick Steve's audio walking tours for everything possible. I even have apps for currency conversion, for offline English-Italian translation, and for sending postcards to family using pictures I've taken in Italy. Amazing.

    I did a trial run this weekend for packing and it turns out these hiking bags are not very big. I know what you're thinking: "Of course, Meg. That's why everyone looked at you like you were crazy when you said you were only packing one hiking backpack."

    Okay, so my spatial reasoning leaves much to be desired. BUT - I'm glad I did a trial run, because I realized a few things that were entirely unnecessary.

    ... was being dredged, so we passed very slowly. It was getting dark and we just barely had time to find a spot to tie up for the evening before we lost sunlight.

    We had a terrific day on the water today. We traveled 80 miles and ended up in Rochester, NY.

    We are tired, but enjoying every minute of this trip. So far so good and we are ready for day three!!
