Cardiff - An Education
The entire time in Cardiff, I felt I was acquiring random facts which I would subsequently recite to the participants at a math conference my boyfriend was attending. Since they had to attend lectures all day, I was taking my role of giving them a second-hand travel experience quite seriously.
A good way to acquire facts and figures is …
Cardiff
... way to the Millennium Stadium tour. The tour around Millennium Stadium began at 2pm and we were in a group of six people. On the tour we watched a movie of the history of the stadium and then entered "the dragon's lair". We got to go into the press conference room (the Ray Gravell room), changing rooms, corporate boxes, entrance tunnel and the pitch itself. At 3.15pm we caught the bus back to Swansea and had "cod and chips" for ...
The day after.
... blowing across he bay as I watch some dinghies sailing well out in the bay. Given it is ten degrees standing on the shore, I can only imagine the sea spray and the wind chill must make it freezing out there, I can only assume they are well cocooned in wetsuits.
I settle on a popular French restaurant and wander in. A table for one is no problem. There are a number of large family ...
Moving onto Wales
... up the path and turn right, go through the industrial area etc etc. We walked to the end of the path but there was more then one option to continue onto. Luckily a nice Welsh man stopped to help us saying " you look lost". Indeed we were. So as he kindly helped us and me holding a sandwich in one hand and trying not to look at his mouth that had more missing teeth than not, I was kind of put off my lunch ha. Anyway we got the directions so we were on our way. ...
Match Day!
... When presented with the dessert menu, once again temptation overcame common sense, toffee pudding for the doctor and a coffee cream cake thing for me.
From there it was back in the car, key in the next obscure address into the sat nav and off we go down those typical one lane goat tracks that you see on English TV shows. The irony of it was that this goat track was quite inappropriately named Main Road. The sat nav struggled to ...
Location
TravelPod Member ReviewsTravelodge Cardiff Central Queen Street
The location and price were good - very close to the castle and within the downtown core. If all you want is somewhere clean to sleep in this area of Cardiff, than this is all you need. We did not have the breakfast, since it was over 7 pounds per day and didn't seem worth it given all the establishments nearby. The bathroom does not include any products other than bar soap and toilet paper. Tea is available in the room, but no coffee. You have to ask the front desk if you need a hair dryer. There is only a few hangers on a rack (not a proper closet as there is no doors around it), and there are no drawers or anything for storing your things. If you return late on a weekend nights, a staff person checks you off to ensure that you actually have a room with hoards of young partiers - it can get noisy, so be prepared for that. Be aware that they will not store your luggage if you arrive early or late. This was frustrating for us as we had a late train and ended up paying for late checkout until 2pm so we could still go out and enjoy the sites on our last day.
