    ... a replica school that Laura taught 5 pupils in when she
    was 16. A lot of the stores mentioned in the books still exist.



    From there we headed to Walnut Grove.
    This features heavily in the TV series and was where Laura and her
    family lived a few times. She was younger in Walnut Grove and
    remembers living in a house dug out of Banks of Plum Creek. The spot
    where the dugout was has collapsed but ...

    ... in the puddle of puke by the hotel entrance. Luckily no one found it ... Who but me would be brave enough to pick it up?? Back to my room, bundled up in many layers of nightie, sweater, yoga pants, slippers & went to sleep. About 1:30 am, I woke feeling better but thirsty ... So hoping I didn't run into anyone in the hall, I padded down (yes in wardrobe mentioned) to get a sprite to drink. Tasted sooooo good, & went back to sleep. Woke in the morning feeling 100% ...

    Start Tuesday 10/8/13. Flew Syracuse to LAX. Public bus to Santa Monica. Stayed at lovely Palihouse Santa Monica Hotel - 1920's Mediterranean. Afternoon bike ride on paved beach path down to Venice Beach and back to north Santa Monica. Wednesday with Gina. Planned Santa Monica stairs venture cancelled due to Gina's fall on hotel stairs.     ... what it was...) So there! Sioux Falls sits on billion year old quartzite, which was once covered by a mile thick glacier. Now a days the exposed rock bed makes for a lovely waterfall park in the center of town. We saw (and smelled) the Hormel plant nearby and elected not to take a tour.
