We were planning to go to Liechtenstein but thought we may as well as it was sort of on our way. It's the worlds 6 smallest country so it would have been rude not to go..haha.
We didn't drive to the main town but to another.. where really there wasn't anything. I did get a photo with the tourist sign though. Had to somehow prove I'd been there!

After a week in Basel we jumped on the train to visit my Uncle and Aunt (Heinz and Elsa) in Gossau – a small town in the north east of Switzerland. On the way we spent a few hours in Zurich where we just wandered around the city centre, had lunch and sat by the lake. Heinz and Elsa met us at the train station and walked us back to their place – about 2 minutes away! They took us for a drive up to a place which gives a great view over St Gallen ...
Gossau, St. Gallen, Switzerland benannaOur third stop of the day was our first in Austria. Now I was entering undiscovered lands! Feldkirch is right on the Switzerland border. The old town centre is surrounded by towers, and a castle sits on a hill above.
We explored Feldkirch and a few of its towers. The old town is quite charming with its colorful buildings, trickling fountains, and small shops. When we tried to ...
Our next stop was St Gallen, home of a beautiful abbey with a medieval library and neighbouring by a charming Old Town. We walked around the abbey exterior before everyone went inside, with the exception of Lincoln and I. I have been here before and know it is a very ornate baroque design inside.
Next, we walked to the abbey library which houses the largest medieval collection of books in the world, basically. There was an admission to go in and my ...
Work has been quite slow lately so since I had nothing better to do today, I took a train to Sargans, Switzerland, and then waited for a bus to Vaduz, Liechtenstein. I missed the bus that left 4 minutes after I arrived. By missed, I mean I couldn't find it until I saw it driving past me. And there are only two or three bus stands in Sargans at the train station, so it was completely due to a lack of intelligence on my part.
Once I ...
... I don't have the momentum and have to walk the whole way. It is REALLY steep. Simon eventually gives up on the bike and we both walk them up. It takes us over an hour, and in the morning I have a some sore muscles. Day 17 - Sunday 18th May Everything is pretty much closed as it is Sunday. It is also pretty wet. We take a drive to the mountains and grab a cable car up a mountain. The view is good, it is starting to clear a bit now. We get some good ...
Appenzell, Appenzell, Switzerland cooknz... their neutrality since the early 19th century (including WWII), and only finally deciding to join the UN in 2002, the Swiss have capped it all by continuing to demonstrate their 'people-power' by resisting entry into the EU - at least for the moment! But we're not here to discuss the finer points of Swiss politics - or, for that matter, to really explore Switzerland in any great detail - just a short stay as a special treat to visit good friends and family. From the moment we ...
