... of cars and no lanes marked on the road. It seemed there were also no road rules, particularly when it came to parking. Cars had basically been parked at any angle or blocking any other cars. Not surprising then that we *************e without a dent! Lots and lots of Smart cars and motor scooters were zipping in and out everywhere making it all seem chaotic. ... only 200 people live in the Vatican with only 60 of them having Vatican passports and a further 600 people travel in and out each day for work. - the "fig leaves" on the statues weren't there when the statues where originally sculpted but were added years later by the church as a form of modesty. We got a couple of sneaky pics in the Sistine chapel and began making tracks- which way was out...???? We circled and weaved in and around the crowds in the hope of finding ...
... In retrospect, we can see how it unfolded- dropped keys, mud like gook thrown on our backs- at that point we twigged something funny was going on and quickly got out onto the street. It created some extra washing and a reminder to be ever vigilant.
At last my tooth was attended to by a lovely Italian lady dentist. The practice was in the same street as the US embassy and upmarket hotels- no graffiti ...
... our first day in Rome. You could see people freaking out and grabbing their umbrellas and running everywhere. But no, the Diersch's here just flip on their hoods of their North Face rain jackets, and march on. This is nothing Rome! In this case, when it is raining in Rome, do NOT what the Romans do. We then went to the market and got some essentials for our apartment: bread, cheese, milk, eggs etc. We then went back and chilled and went to bed.
