Happy New Years!
... was 'official' but just like Christmas Eve, the entire waterfront just erupted with every kind of firework imaginable - some looking somewhat professsional but most just randomly going off in every direction, some up in the air, some out over the water, some over the streets and in the parks. We worked our way through it and back to watch some of it from the safety of the hotel, and called it a night ( and a year). Another memorable ...
Life's a Beach!
... locals have built staircases down to the shore and charge a small fee for access.
We spent the afternoon swimming and playing beach tennis on a really nice stretch with fewer people and almost no vendors and then were back for a dinner at a Tenedor Libre (all you can eat, literally translates to Free Fork) and home.
Short update today, so some random observations:

Running the Gauntlet to Mar del Plata
... building a stage of some sort next to the hotel and upon inquiring we learned that the Dakar cross country endurance driving race is set to start on Jan 1st here so the whole town is abuzz with activity getting ready. 150 or so teams in town, many staying at our hotel it seems.
We went to dinner at a seafood restaurant built out on a big pier and a walk along a pedestrian mall and then scouted a restaurant for our New Year's Eve dinner.

Strokestown Old Folks Home on Tour...
... excruciatingly hot...to the point it was unbearable...a couple of the lads got lit despite having a couple of coats of sunscreen plastered on...
After a couple of nights we made the short journey to BA...fully aware of the carnage that lay ...
Beach Burns Back
... that I would, if I had money to spare, happily buy and do up to reopen. The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing in the shade of the trees in Plaza Colon, passing the time before we catch our bus and leave for our next destination. Did I meantion we have a mammoth sixteen and a half hours on a coach? More time than a single leg of our flights from the United Kigdom, and something I feel we will have to get used to.
