Weekend in KL - Check Malaysia off the list

So some friends asked me the week before they took off for a trip..."Hey Brandon, we're going to Kuala Lumpur for the weekend, wanna come?". My first answer...no....it's too close to your departure date so it will be cost prohibitive. But then I realized that this is India, we're in the middle of a swine flu scare and it's monsoon season...so maybe it wasn't so cost prohibitive after all. $500 later I had a round trip ticket to KL from Hyderabad + 2 nights in a posh 5 star hotel (Traders Shan...

All good trips start in KL. They certainly do with the advent of Air Asia X, the international arm of Air Asia. We were both pleasantly surprised with the flight (actually Cath hated it, but thats planes in general). Huge seats made it nice and comfy. Food was great. Always is.

Anyhoo, Caths birthday pressie was the first couple of nights in the sweet Traders Club Room staring right over the twin towers. Including our free evening bar and snacks we worked it so we could eat and drink i...

Well we left Adelaide and heading back to the UK only to stop off in KL for 3 nights before getting back to the grind. We arrived in KL and were told that a limo was waiting for us and we were whisked away to our hotel. We were welcomed and were directed to the 32nd floor to a private check-in. We paid a bit extra for the Traders club and it was so worth it. We had a larger room with our own lounge room and had a view that over looked the Petronas Towers. Every morning we got a free breakfast...

Arrived very early on Wednesday morning at the new KL Sentral train station after a long and uncomfortable journey from Singapore. Our hotel overlooks the KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre) Park and the Petronas (Twin) Towers - amazing view, particularly at night time when all the city lights up.
Felt very tired all day, but headed out to explore KL - spent the morning at KLCC shopping centre, afternoon by the pool and then went over to China Town for the evening. Looked around the Central Ma...

After 12 hours of flying, we're here! Bye bye to Italy and all that pizza, pasta, ham and cheese!!! Hello to........amongst other things Australian food! Yes, it seems a lot of Australians visit KL and theres lamb, beef and gourmet pies YUM. Feeling a little jet lagged as we left at 1pm (Rome time) and arrived at 7.45am (KL time) so we kind of missed a nights sleep....but never mind....we have REAL beds with one big mattress and all the luxuries of home.....comfy as....night, night.....silly ...

Sunday 26th July

Travel day from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur. Uneventful coach journey on a good air-conditioned vehicle. Still not sure of driving rules on Malaysian motorways – coach sems to sit in middle lane, being overtaken on both inside and outside, and occasionally swings into outside lane to ovetake other coaches. Entry into Puduraya coach terminal seems to take an endless time, so long in fact that everyone alights from the coach and the driver is made to open the luggage do...

Kuala Lumpur Day 2

Monday 27th July Kuala Lumpur

Wake up and are glad to see that Towers are still there, as indeed are we.

The day's plan was to visit the KL Tower, as opposed to the Petronas Towers, (the walkway of which is closed on Modays and apparently the 1300 or so tickets go just like gold-dust very early in morning anyway), and a tour of the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, 11 hectares of rainforest in the city centre. We set off on foot, after all the KL Tower only looked a block or two away....

Encircled by Traffic in Kuala Lumpur

We have arrived in Kuala Lumpur, the first stop of our trip. It was a long haul flight from London so we thought a little bit of pampering was in order to help get over any jet lag. We had pre-booked into the Traders Hotel in the centre of KL and across the park from the Petronas Twin Towers. It is a lovely place with a great view and we are certainly living it up before we have to relocate to more budget accommodation! At first we really liked KL, but its agreeability is being worn away by t...

We are on our way

Well after an 8 month wait we are finally on our way. Brisbane airport at 23:00 is a quite place with only the very brave waiting for flights to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Thailand. Malaysian Airlines is far better than Qantas in my opinion. The Boeing 777 was the quietest aircraft I have ever been on and the most comfortable. The friendly staff who great you with a genuine smile are a credit to their country. Food was average but at midnight that was not a priority. Landing in KL at 5am in ...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Traders Kuala Lumpur

AWESOME!!!

from Silvertimtim
The hotel is excellent, and is within the complex of the Petronas Towers. The room was fab, with stunning views of the PT (make sure you get a garden view room), bathroom was clean and luxurious. Can't beat this hotel on price and location. The hotel has a great Skybar with swimming pool and great views of the Towers again. We recommend you upgrade to "The Club" upon arrival, as you receive, breakfast, afternoon, tea, and business lounge facilities (well worth the price).

There is a complimentary golf cart pick up from the PT to save you walking the 5 mins round the park area to the hotel. It's a nice walk but also a nice added touch by the hotel.

Recommend for PT sky bridge viewing, get there at 7.30am (ticket booth opens at 8.30am) as only approx 1400 tickets available each day. PT is free and the KL Tower is only a few dollars and that's a great view.

Great value!

from phladun
This hotel is sparkling brand new with a very modern look and the rate charged is a great value for the quality of the room. The bathrooms are huge with both a bathtub and shower area.

The pool area is rooftop and quite nice although will probably become rundown fairly quickly based on the 6-month wear on the cushions, etc.

The hotel is attached to the convention centre and it is probably just over a 10 minute walk from the Suria KLCC shopping centre, Twin Towers and KLCC LRT stop.

We did not eat at the hotel as we felt the restaurant was overpriced.

Very modern hotel

from strtchrst
The hotel is new and very modern. I would rate it as a 4.5 star hotel. The bathroom is huge and fantastic. It had a toilet which washed your bottom if you wished, by pressing a button! The view from our room was abolutely amazing, just bang opposite the twin towers. The bedroom was also very large with a sofa and a desk, which gave it the look of an office, so it might not be to everybody's taste.

The only complaint I have is that the pillows stank. I think the pillow cases were never dried properly.

As we had to leave the next morning early, we did not have the time to have breakfast, but when we checked out (on the 5th floor, where the restaurant is), there was a massive queue, as there are not enough seats and tables for a hotel that size.

Nice hotel with good location

from truewords
New and Nice design for the hotel... nice gym with a view facing the KLCC. It also has a Swimming Pool at the top level of the hotel with two jacuzzi at the poolside. Its just a 5min walk to KLCC, very convinient. The only negative point is their respond to housekeeping is very slow.... overall...its still quite a nice hotel, should be 4.5 star hotel.

Gorgeous modern hotel in good location

from chendol
This hotel was great!

We spent 1 night here as a stopover on our way to Langkawi. Getting to the hotel was quite easy, we arrived in the evening and took the airport train to KL Sentral (30 mins), then hopped onto a cab for 18 Ringgit to Traders Hotel (which took about 10 mins). The Traders Hotel is located right opposite KLCC where there is a large shopping mall, the Petronas twin towers and a large park. We noticed a running track in the park - great for those who like their morning jog.

The hotel itself is very new and beautifully decorated in a simple modern way (don't expect a grand lobby with large chandeliers). The lobby is on the 5th floor, which I initially found a little odd. We booked a deluxe room garden view through Trader's website but was upgraded to a city view upon arrival. The rooms are also modern but have a very luxurious feel - we had an extra sofa and recliner seat, both a large bathtub and a shower, plasma TV and a huge bed which felt so comfortable we had trouble dragging ourselves out of it. (See photos)

The staff were also extremely friendly and helpful even if a little blur at times ... no doubt this will improve with experience.

On the whole, I would highly recommend this to anyone staying in KL.

Promising but with room for improvement

from Travel_weary4
I'm a frequent business visitor to KL and decided to give the Traders KL a try. I had a parkview room - room was modernly furnished and had very good lighting - this business traveller who has had to contend on many occations with poor lighting while working on his laptop in hotel rooms - certainly appreciates this feature.

When I requested for shampoo, they certainly delighted this customer by calling me back 10 minutes later to check if housekeeping had delivered the item. Plus points from me for their customer service level.

On areas with opportunities for improvement - that relates to their staff at the coffee house on the 5th floor - Gobo. The waitstaff were chatting in their local language (about their personal lives) well within earshot of customers - not a very professional image. Also I saw a chef cough into his hands, after which he proceeded to work on food - the pros and cons of having an open-kitchen concept.

Best hotel in KL

from revassent
This is my second stay in the Traders since they opened in July. 1st stay was in end July. When I returned this time, they remembered my name even before I checked in!

Excellent staff in the Traders Lounge. Personalised service with smiles every morning at the club lounge during breakfast. They even remember how I liked my coffee. I didn't have time to use any of the amenities so I can't comment on that.

Overall, wouldn't stay in any other hotel if my company has the budget.

Nice room but poor service

from jglin
we reserved our room for 14 nites stay but moved out on the fifth nite. Firstly, front desk doesn't know hotel management in details. When we checked in, we asked whether breakfast was complimentary and we were told yes. However when we checked out, we were billed for all breakfast consumed as we were told under corporate rate, breakfast is not included. We immediately told the staff that they were the ones who did our check in and they should know our deal better than us. If they told us breakfast is inclusie, we would definitely believe them. Who else would know this better ecxept them!!!

Next, as the hotel has just opened on 1 July, it is new and we suspect very short handed. When we asked for our baby's soiled diaper to be removed from our room at 8pm before we went out for dinner, we epect conceirge to relay our message to housekeeping. However when we returned at 11pm, the smelly diaper was still left in the room. We immediately called housekeeping and they promised to come. Half an hour later, we called again and they again said OK. By then, my children were too tired and we really did not want anyone to disturb their sleep. Minutes later, a well dressed lady from front desk came and cleared the rubbish instead. Well, we can all sleep now....but NO! We received a call at 12.30AM from front desk to check whether someone has come to clear the rubbish!! 12.30AM...do they take note of time and customer's privacy????

When we could not take such poor service anymore and decided to check out, we asked for a bell boy to carry our luggage to the lobby. The reply we got was "YOU HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT 10 MINUTES". Knowing we can't trust that their 10 min really meant 10 min, we lugged our luggage ourselves with 2 young kids behind us. At the lobby, I was very sure this guy at the conceige counter saw us but he simply turned round and talked to his colleague without helping. Only when we approached them did another guy came to help!

Other minus point: Breakfast menu is the same throughout the week. Mykids were sick of the food after 2 days. Room is full of white feathers. Housekeeping and I deduced the feathers came from the quilt. This makes the room dusty.

Plus point: We upgraded to a park view room that overlooked KLCC Suria and the fountain. View is terrific and room is spacious and beautiful. If the management is better, I will really want to come back but until that happens, it's a BIG NO for now!

5-star at 3 star prices

from mosquita
I usually stay at the Mandarin Oriental when in KL, but this will be the las time. Right across the park, the new Traders is more personal, although big, shiny and thoroughly modern. None of the men's club ambience, more like a nice NYC hotel. Super friendly and helpful staff. Perfect views over the Twin towers, 2 minute walk across the park to KLCC. Little pleasant surprises like chocolate and fresh fruit delivered in your room. And all at less than half of the price of Mandarin Oriental. I paid MYR410 for a park view club room, but I think rooms start at MYR270. Unfortunately the hotel had "forgot" to mention that the pool will not open till August, so off I traipse to the Mandarin, paying an exhorbitant 850 for a non-view club room. But it's not all lost, I will definitely be back!

Great hotel...

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have pleasant experience there. All together, we stayed 4 nights.

The location of this hotel is excellent. There're two large shopping malls nearbyl. More, even you stay in-room can see the twin towers and very nice garden view of KLCC park (from room no. 09, 15). More important is, in every single room they have free Internet access.

They have well-trained staffs too, very friendly and helpful. There're some minor problems related to the "hardware" such as shower in our room, the service was able to address it in 5-10 mins. Also, we do appreciate the manager, Mr Flynne, who is very professional. I don't think I have to write down the details here, but the most impressed he said, "please leave all the problems here to me, no worry... I'll do all the rest before you come back from your business meeting...", when the time I was in a rush for my presentation.

The only drawback abour my experience was that we missed the spa and swimming pool, which have not yet opened.
