... had soba and grilled river trout and was treated to cookies by the super nice staff while I waited for the bus back to Oboke. Then There was a boat ride and a mega walk up a hill with creepy ghost statues, chatty oba sans that gave me candy and I even saw a tanuki! Then onsen at the hotel and back for a giant vegan dinner. Now that I am just getting my bearings and remembering more Japanese it is time to go. ...

We had thought that there would be 2 really big, deep whirlpools under the bridge, however it is actually more like lots of little whirlpools which all twist and turn into one another. Winding roads up ...

... looked 60 - tops! So that's the truth of the day, climb people! Climb! Me and mr mountain hiker walked together for approx 5hrs. My umbrella worked great as walking stick at tough spots. And as a shield against the sun. But most if all I found out it would be great against snakes. Because yup, the mountain was full of highly poisonous and dangerous 'Mamushi', a viper that bit around 3000ppl per year. So camping on the ground was out if the question. Instead there was a henro ...

... enjoyed the absence of noise and nuisance. I did what I do best. Just let my feet guide themselves onto any road, path or alley that they felt like walking on. And they led me straight to a shop that sold pilgrim gear. What luck. Much cheaper than the temple shops I had read about online. And also I got my first pilgrim gifts of this journey. A cup of tea and 3 packets of incense sticks. How lovely! Found rare outdoor seating at Cafe Hats Espressivo and almost licked the ...
