... Canal City before walking back to our hotel. We were pretty exhausted after a day of walking and shopping so we relaxed for a couple of hours before heading out for dinner. We didn't want to go very far, nor have too large a meal so we found the perfect place right across the street from our hotel - a place called Sukiya where they served simple one bowl meals called gyu-don, beef or pork cooked with vegetables served on top of rice. John had a delicious curry ...

... for over an hour. Our bottoms were pretty sore from sitting on the wooden seats by the time we disembarked. We arrived in a quaint village and we walked to a restaurant that Haruyo had reserved for us. The specialty of the area is grilled eel - kabayaki. A truly great day.

We then went to view the former residence of the Hosokawa Gyobu, a well restored samurai residence of the Hosokawa clan, the third head of the family. It comprises immaculately raked gravel (with the request not to walk on it), and beautiful gardens. Some ...

... how its kept so clean and organised. At the airport we found our capsule hotel, a cleverly designed row of body sized pods with a duvet, a pillow, a light, a speaker emitting the sound of the sea and a blind to pull down once your in. All you need for a good nights sleep before a 12hr flight home. Somewhat sad to be leaving but so happy to be coming home to see you all. :) :) ...
