Leaving Hiroshima today. All in all it was a good 2 days, and I could have possibly stretched it one futher day if had gone into all of the museums in the peace park, but really 2 days here was enough. We were free to take our time today. We left the Friendship Centre at the same time as the Finnish guy with the cryptic name, and we all hopped onto a stupidly crowded tram. After a 20 minute tram ride from hell we got to the Hiroshima JR station, and boarded the Shinkansen with the Finnish guy...
Fukuoka, Kyushu-Okinawa, Japan apatDecided to forgo the complimentary Japanese breakfast of coffee, rice balls and miso soup at the hotel. Instead we went for a walk to Canal City. Stopped at a Cafe World Beans for the morning coffee, which had not much interesting to report except good coffee and a giant motorised rotating globe in the middle of the table we sat at. Kept the girls quiet and amused while we drank our coffee anyway, which was welcome. Canal city is referred to by the marketing hype spat out by the Fukuoka offic...
Fukuoka, Kyushu-Okinawa, Japan apatToday at 4 pm I pulled into the station at Matsumoto and began the journey in my new home and city here in Japan. But, first let me backtrack.... Training this last week in Okayama was intense, fulfilling and actually a lot of fun. Five long days of enormous amounts of information, seminar after meeting after teaching demonstration and BAM, you're an English teacher. Well, not quite, but at least it's a start. Let me just say that it was the most thorough, organized and well-prepared training...
Matsumoto, Japan mskillernWell, we've had a full day in Fukuoka, which is a fantastic city, very cosmopolitan and seems to have a big international flavour to it. Finally managed to get Dee to eat some Japanese food when we went to a buffet restaurant at the top of a shopping tower recommended by Lonely Planet. Food was goooood and was great to have some local nosh for once! Had a good look around and met some random German guy in a bar who is into nano-tech and wanted lots of money so he could build Si the smallest c...
Fukuoka, Japan s_and_d... The next morning I wandered the side streets and lanes, and found myself at Yusida Shrine, welcomed by a Nandi on the left (later learned there is also a sacred cow/patron god in Shinto)
Then to the blast of the main streets, and ticket on to Yufuin. (I fly out of FUK, so will explore more of the city when I return).
Here we go again, off to lands unknown (to us, anyway) with our lives stuffed into luggage. The last time we do this will not be too soon! I suppose it's the price of an adventurous lifestyle.
Speaking of which, we are currently in Nogata, Fukuoka which is probably the *least* adventurous town ever. It consists of rice fields and... rice fields. My grandparents live here though, and it's also where we ...

... it's suffered from decline from its glory days as a cruise ship port, and there has been a major investment in public improvements. It probably needs a few factory outlet stores to fill up some of the remaining vacant old buildings. But even as-is, this is a community that deserves a visit!
I did not have time to visit Cha Cha Town, a shopping center in Kokura, another community that's part of Kitakyushu ...
We stayed in Fukuoka for one night as we were getting the Beetle at 9am in the morning from the port here. We knew it was a bit of a party town and had many street stalls so went out in the evening for a wander. We walked for miles but ended up back at the first street stall we saw as it had a good view and seemed busy enough that it was ok to eat in!! Sat down and got noodles as we couldn't decide ...
« The bridge is formed from three elements. Approaching the bridge from the section furthest from the Honden (le bâtiment ...
