... we left. I visualised myself sitting in a carriage as Russia flicks by out the window and now, as the sweat dries after the struggle to stash our packs and settle into the carriage, we start to roll out of the station to the sound of a hooting whistle - this is it for real.

We enjoyed some handcrafted beers and the Russian bar snack of choice, very garlicky, deep fried bread. Nick said I still had garlic breath even after I brushed my teeth that night. ... in the town was switched off for 2 days otherwise we would have been disgusting by the time we got back on and off the train. The town is really pictureseque with lots of old wooden style houses so spent a day sightseeing before heading back on the train for 2 nights onto Irkutsk and Lake Baikal. They also have a great named local team - Tom Tomsk FC. Think I may start supporting them as they will probably be better than Arsenal soon anyway. ...
