    ... We did not get to the Bonneville Dam as a barge was going thru so we went to the fish hatchery instead. Lunch was at Hood River, then a drive up to Timberline Lodge. What tremendous views of Mt Hood.

    I thought I might get bored of aviation museums but the Evergreen Museum, some 25 miles SW of Portland, was super. In attractive hangars there was an excellent collection of real and replica planes, including a Blackbird and a Spitfire. Highlight was Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose. It was massive! My wide-angle camera couldn't fit it in. Actually made from birch the plane flew only once, for just a mile, by Hughes himself. The guides, all elderly and ...
