... pretty lazy day for us (we didn't even get back on the road until a little after noon). But, our next stop was not that far so we figured that we could afford to chill with our friend a bit before we headed out. Our next destination that we had planned was/is Las Vegas, Nevada to stay with our another Yellowstoner friend for a few days. The drive from Bishop to Vegas was hot and boring. The views we had were great at some points, but for the most part it was a ...

My drive to Vegas was long, and I have decided that I like Colorado and Utah way better than Arizona, California, and Nevada. The mountains are much more inviting and interesting in Colorado and Utah. In the other states they are just brown and hot. I need some vegetation and rivers surrounding me. Soon we are flying over the rim into the canyon and it is huge. The Colorado River is quite dirty here as it is dumping a ...

On the way back to the campsite to pack up one final time, we encountered an elk grazing at the side of the road. It stood behind the trees, moving slowly into view and we were able to watch him for a good ten minutes. Hs antlers were enormous, and Jen, the guide, deduced that he was a mature male. It was a beautiful, peaceful moment, watching one of the giants of the animal world simply ...

... the wait. Four hours of freezing our asses off the cop finally approaches our window again an informs us that we will need to be re routed and allows us to drive the 200 meters ahead in order to take the dirt road median that divides the highway. Seriously, we couldn't do this 4 hours ago? We needed to backtrack an hour to the nearest town where we stopped for breakfast and I hauled out the map to find a relatively short detour. In the end we needed to travel ...
