... They were huge! One was kind of keeping an eye on us but the others were pretty disinterested. As we were leaving the park at the end of the day, we came around a corner and there was a male lion in the middle of the road!! We had had no cell service thru most of the park, and we had just got back in range so Tim was on his cell talking to his wife when I spotted the lion! We had a good laugh after as I couldn't even say anything just grabbed his arm and ...
Johannesburg, South Africa bathorne... just in time for the rains to fall, and the storm was electical to say the least and lasted for a few hours, it was absolutely amazing and thre rains were really heavay, never experienced that before. No photos though sorry! Last day in Jo'berg and I met a young traveller who had just started his travels so I "mothered him" a bit, though he did ask me to help him, he thought I was organised and needed some help to decide what and where to go on his ...
Johannesburg, South Africa traceywilson16 July - Jo'burg Woke up at 8, had a leisurely breakfast and even had time to make myself some lunch sandwiches before heading to the airport at 10:15 for my 13:30 flight. I arrived at the airport nearly two and a half hours before my flight's scheduled departure but was a bit disappointed to see that my flight wasn't even checking in yet. I was assured by the airport staff that I would be able to check in "soon". When a flight that was departing later than ...
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa bangkokrandy... sure you grab a coffee before emigration since you have a suspicion the waiting lounges are not so big here. You settle into your flight with lunch, followed by four or five movies. You booked on British Airways, who have an alliance with Qantas, who have subcontracted their flight number out to SAA. Depending on which aisle I get served from I either get a trainee stewardess or not. At least there is a good selection of South ...
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa thefiveyears... the city centre to get to the Apartheid museum which was interesting - I saw Nelson Mandela bridge and the infamous 'Hillbrow' area too. I spent a couple of hours in the museum - I didn't know too much about apartheid or SA's history so it was really interesting. I was then picked up and taken to meet up with some other people for the Soweto tour. The first part of Soweto we were taken to was the 'millionaires' part - the houses are enormous with ...
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa cat2222... I played some foosball before getting challenged to a doubles match by some locals. We lost. Fast. As the night progressed we became friendly with another small group of locals (South Africans are very friendly) celebrating Babe's 22nd Birthday. Yes, her name was really Babe. We had a really good time...but things got a little tense when Max and Babe got a little closer ...
Cape Town, South Africa nazarianr... to its former inhabitants but little has come of it. Perhaps 24 families have been resettled but the area has none of the vibrancy and individualism that characterized the district before. There are now plans proposed by the United Arab Emirates to relocate the train system underground and build a series of lakes on the land that was once District six. What eventually will happen to the area is still unknown. Our second stop was a visit to the Castle of Good Hope where we ...
Cape Town, South Africa pachi... have fairly good bodies which are evident under tight leggings. But do these bastions of sensibility really have to inflict their Visible Panty Lines on humanity? 30 June Many sessions on the treadmill later, can now do 60 minutes, most of which at an incline of 15 degrees. A big thank you to the MP3 player. 25 July Still walking, but will have to reconsider strategy. I'm contemplating the general fallacy that exercise is good for you: contrary to all that propaganda, I ...
Pretoria, South Africa telita... priced Dove's Nest. The admin, was me catching up on emails and travel log. On arrival at around 5.00pm I sat outside in the hotel garden writing up my log, I continued in my room as it got cooler, pausing for something to eat for half an hour and continuing until around 9.00pm when I then went online until 11.00pm. I continued updating my log until going to sleep at 2.00pm. Keeping the log up to date is pretty time consuming, but really important to me as a future ...
