... very young (1 year), she was a bit slow getting out of the vehicle and was more interested in watching something in the far distance but once she got going wow damn she was quick! Second we had Shakra (another female but little bit older), she was amazing once the back door of the vehicle opened up she leapt and ran into the track and immediately started chasing the target! Thirdly they brought out Alan's Girl / Big Girl and rather than bringing her down to us in ...

We feel as though we have done everything we could and wanted to do during our time here, and although we enjoyed our experience, its time to go.Adrienne has emailed me and she seems to be enjoying Cape Town. Shes doing everything that Julie and I dont want ...

The curse of Moholoholo

Hey All! WOW what a week again! Let me just start by saying something that will shock the world! Yesterday we went to a local reptile park and saw loads of sweet stuff but above all else, something so completely unheard of happened. I held a baboon spider! Thats right, read it and weap! ME! of all people let a tarantula crawl on my hand. Im still totally creeped out, and I had tears in my eyes when I did it but IN YOUR FACE! I have faced my fears hehehehe. I dont think its cured but I ...

Back at the rehab

Hello everyone! We are back from our nights out in the bush! What an amazing time! It was like a vacation really. The first day we got there we unpack and then went on a game drive. We found some honeybadgers which was cool cause they are so rare to see in the wild and we got to see 2!! We saw Giraffe and Zebra which we see alot here and impala as well which are like squirls in Canada. They are everywhere but still cool! After dinner we had a fire outside and told stories and ...

Southern girl goes on Safari

... balls and beetles digging holes in the ground. You'll also see a photo of an armored grasshopper-very different from anything I've ever seen in the States! I fell in love with a tree called the baobab, which can live over 1,000 years. While they're not wildly tall, a baobab trunk is so wide that it qualifies as one of the largest in the world. I've heard that in some African cultures, families used to live inside hollowed-out baobab trees and that church ...

Kruger Park

... it was amazing! We had the flash lights on them (8 of them) and we could see them quite clearly - even though our photo's dont show it! We went to a rehabilitation centre where we learnt a lot of information about injured animals and birds. I even got to have a vulture land on my arm to eat off it! The following day we entered Kruger Park and set up camp. In the morning (5am) we went for a drive with our tour operator as its the best time to see ...

Bush Walking - Balule

... any corner could be a wild animal, and it was reassuring to have the guides with us, although none of them were armed. They were expert bushmen and could track animals almost instinctively. We came across a number of footprints, and dung, but didn't see any big game, possibly on account of the commentary of 'Oh ****' from one of your companions! Our Guide, however was expert at pointing out the things we'd probably never notice without him, such as ...

Johannesburg to Balule

... a fantastic pancake in a gorgeous restaurant. A hop back on the truck and we stopped at Bourkes' Luck Pot potholes. Where the Blyde River ("river of joy") and the Treur River ("river of sorrow") meet, water erosion has formed these 'potholes'. The Potholes were named after a gold digger, Tom Burke, who staked a claim nearby. Although his claim did not produce a single ounce of gold, he correctly predicted that large gold deposits would be found in the area. I got ...
