Six very large suitcases, 4 stuffed carry-ons, 2 bulky kennels, 2 nervous dogs, 1 energetic toddler and only 2 adults. I'm not sure if flying half-way across the world with a two-year who apparently decided to boycott naps for the journey was more difficult than managing the sheer amount of stuff. Our small express shipment may take 45 days to arrive; the rest of our stuff perhaps a month or two behind. Therefore, six bags is not a lot especially with a toddler. I have ...

Today we got up early and got on the train to Matsumoto by 8.00am. Our trip was a bit of a late decision, we were tossing up between Yokohama or Matsumoto Castle and, in the end, we decided on the castle, which claims to have the oldest five-storey tenshu (main tower) in Japan.

... walk to the temple where the hanamatsuri ended. The Kosenji temple is a Buddhist temple that celebrates the glory of Kusatsu Onsen. There were lots of small stands with activities for the children. Nice temple located on a hilltop overlooking the Yubatake en the town center. When walking back to the bus stop we pass a large stand where they sell knives, shears, pruning shears in all sizes. We buy a shear in the shape of ikebana clippers, the rounded handle ...

... in there. Everything is geared to tiny Japanese people.... According to Japanese custom shoes needs to be removed when entering the room, room slippers are waiting for us. Beds are extremely hard, each bed has a small and very thin pillow, there is another pillow in the closet. We unpack and relax for a while, then take a walk around the hotel. It is a large and kind of dated resort which could use some TLC...... Our Japanese dinner reservation is for ...
