... I should have suggested we eat something before we came back to the hotel, as Alex is already asleep at 7.30pm! Oh well, if we wake up and are hungry later, there a large number of restaurant choices around! We ate at 1pm and I had the old chicken broth remedy that you have when you are sick! We did go out again and I learnt something else about St Petersburg. If you are a non smoker, don't ask to sit outside! It is now just after 11pm and the last of the light is ...

Post Script: As we approached St. Petersburg, we learned of the downing of the Malaysian Airlines plane over Ukraine. Though details were still cloudy, it was already pretty clear that the destruction of this plane, and the nearly 300 lives on board, was tied to the military conflict in Ukraine. ... train was of rubbish dumps, untidy and cluttered back yards and poorly maintained buildings. Our arrival in Moscow was greeted by grey skies and intermittent light showers. We made a visit to Red Square and then got caught in a peak hour traffic jam that ensured we got to our hotel , the Radisson Belyroshia, only just in time for a 9pm ...

... to "The Little Humpbacked Horse"...a ballet at the Marisnky. It was absolutely stunning, I have never seen such amazing coordination on display before and the ballet was actually quite funny. Overall a great experience.

The upcoming week holds a 10 page essay on Gogol, 2 books to read, more cultural excursions, a hockey game, and (hopefully) a segway tour! Really starting to warm-up to St Petersburg, now if only the weather would follow suit!
