It really is a shame we already booked our flight to France from Porto. We could have easily stayed an extra week in Portugal, there is so much to see here. But we did pretty good with our 2 days in Porto. It's right on the river and the ocean, and on one side of the river are tons of cute, old tiled homes, that look across to the other side of the bank where all of the old Port ...

Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal europapart123We drove to Madelana about 8 kilometers from Porto. As we got near Jessica decided that she was no longer going to be our sat nav floozie and left us in the lurch in a narrow cobbled street. A kind passerby volunteered to accompany us out of difficulty but there was no room in the car. Where upon a passing motorist stopped and offered to lead us to the camp site. There followed a journey down twisting cobbled streets some of them two way as he stopped the oncoming ...
Porto, Porto, Portugal mikeandsuecuff... getting to the place - one woman threatened to throw out her sat nav after taking the wrong turn numerous times. The rain continued and as the camp site only offered sites under oak trees we had a few very noisy nights with water dripping, acorns and oak apples falling on the caravan and a stream running underneath it we decided to move on.
Braga, Northern Portugal, Portugal mikeandsuecuff
The next day we hit the road to Porto which was a substantial drive of about 5-6 hours. Luckily this is the day the weather decided to turn, so the bad weather was endured from the comfort of the car. We arrived late to Porto and checked into our less then elegant hostel. Our meal was no better. We ...

Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal donwen... for a hostel. It looked more like an Ikea show room with free printing, quality linen, and a little bit too nice for a hostel. Good point to wind down I guess and as a result the only exciting thing I did was visit the Port Cellars which it is obviously famous for.

Unfortunately, I was one night too late for St John The Baptist festival ...
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal ddoumani... be closer to the centre of town and save us walking up the hill from Sao Bento station to the Majestic Café, a Porto landmark where we had decided to have a light dinner. I tell you, I am so full of good ideas. Although the walk from Campanha Station to the centre of town took us more than half an hour (compared to a 3 minute walk from Sao Bento), we completely avoided that hill! The Majestic opened in 1923 and was a favourite of the 'ladies' of the town. It is ...
Guimarães, Portugal guykb... that it was Sunday. Ohhh. I've been travelling so much I can't keep track of what day it is. I was lucky though, even though technically none of the shops are open, there was a shopping mall nearby that had a food court and it was open. Pizza Hut was open this evening (until 11 actually) so I had to have dinner there as I didn't find the supermarket until too late... therefore I couldn't cook. Any excuse really. Portuguese and Spanish ...
