... getting to the place - one woman threatened to throw out her sat nav after taking the wrong turn numerous times. The rain continued and as the camp site only offered sites under oak trees we had a few very noisy nights with water dripping, acorns and oak apples falling on the caravan and a stream running underneath it we decided to move on.

Well, it's only for one night and pretty soon we're wandering the streets of the university town, the pension, its 1950's décor, dodgy bathroom fittings (why is it in cheap hostels it's always the little plastic shower head-holder that breaks and never gets replaced?) and absent-minded receptionist becoming a distant memory whilst we begin the search in earnest for Coimbra ...

... some more sightseeing and attempted some shopping (everything is pretty pricey here). The locals don´t earn a lot so we wonder how they get on - a lot of basics in the supermarket are about double the price in Oz tho meat, fish & bread are pretty cheap. And having an expresso and pastry is good value - usually around €1.20 for both (AUD$2.00).

... be closer to the centre of town and save us walking up the hill from Sao Bento station to the Majestic Café, a Porto landmark where we had decided to have a light dinner. Although the walk from Campanha Station to the centre of town took us more than half an hour (compared to a 3 minute walk from Sao Bento), we completely avoided that hill! ... peale, kui me kiitsime ilusat vaadet, teatas ta, et on seda juba 20 aastat näinud ja sick of it. Tundus, et ka oma tööst pole ta enam suuremas vaimustuses, sest iga kelner peaks ometi teadma, et portot ja veini ei tohiks samal ajal tuua. ... to have made the shower bigger so I don't know why they didn't in the first place. The kitchen is big and fairly well stocked - lacking the vital toaster - but that is easily fixed. The only thing is they have no signage about kitchen rules. I.e. 'You use it, you wash it' kind of thing... therefore no one does. I had to wash a sink load of dishes this morning so I could have a clean plate to eat off... so I did this while the owner/manager ...
