... went to the local restaurant 'strip' where the owners are all vying for your business as you walk by with giant open fridges displaying the dishes that are on their menus. They all do similar stuff we some variations but we already knew what we were after: a fish platter for Ali and Sue and a shellfish paella for Ian and me. Mountain drive

... time via the road that kept us close to the beachfront, which took a bit longer but allowed us to take in the sights. It was pretty windy on the beach so we were all gently exfoliated by the fine, wind-blown sand in a pleasant way; the wind keeping us a bit cooler in the blazing heat. Back to Casa Cronk to pack a picnic then off to their 'private' beach ...

Arrived Alicante airport more or less on time after a 45' delay leaving Gatwick and Ian Cronk was there to greet us and take us to Casa Cronk in Benidoleig. Unbelievably hot weather so we had a welcome ice cold Buck's Fizz (with home made fresh squeezed orange juice) and snacks whilst admiring Sue and Ian's lovely Spanish home. Then off ...

    Captivating Calpe, the Costa Blanca

As we drove out of Granada having thoroughly enjoyed our stay, our only plan was to head across to the coast and start making our way north. It was only when we stopped for lunch and pulled out the map that we randomly selected a seaside village by the name of Calpe situated near a point along the Costa Blanca between Alicante and Valencia.

The drive was once again visually splendid and diverse. Having left the Sierra Nevadas behind we continued to roll from ...
