      ... beach on the Atlantic. We lucked into sunshine and warm fall air. We spent the afternoon and evening in Santillana del Mar, an authentic medieval town with winding cobblestones and half-timbered buildings. Our hotel was a stone-walled collection of slanted floors, odd furniture and creepy old paintings, right out of a movie set.

      We left early Friday morning to head to Bilbao. We trusted the Marquis (our GPS) but – oh boy! ...

      ... than last year (that was Adrian's) Things we didn't like: 98% of Parador receptionists 5% of Spanish roads 100% of almost undriveable potholed roads People wanting to sit on the cars while having their photo taken :-( The weather wasn't as good as it could have been Bracing on bendy roads (the ladies that is) So far more positives than negatives, which has to be a positive!       ... Navarette about 8km from Logrono. By 9 we were only on outskirts, through that big park area and the sun was setting. We were heading into countryside but it was really too late to walk further. A lovely Spanish lady out walking her dog rang a taxi for us. Arrived in hostel El Cantaro 9.30. Room crammed with 6 bunks. Smallest room on Camino so far. Not much sleep, people up and about all ...

Packed bike outside hotel main entrance & set off sat nav for shortest time so freeways now good! trying to overtake on single lane roads yesterday was tricky & unpleasant to say the very least. Now on toll roads we made good progress could see big mountains in the distance the weather was fine - wow the Spanish have some awesome roads ...all the euro funding has been put to good use - UK could do,with some of that.
