    ... actually knew a few words of their language. Calm seas and temperatures near seventy, made the entrance into the Straights of Messina a pleasant guide into port. Cloud cover over Mount Etna prevented us from seeing the tallest volcano in Europe.More disappointingly, due to our short day in port, we did not have enough time to travel to the top of the active volcano.

    ... theatrical masks. It was fascinating to see the characters displayed side by side, to compare the different characteristics. Besides the Museum, the area also includes several churches, most of which are not in use, closed or used for offices. The impressive Cathedral of St Bartolomeo was open, and quite spectacular in its more recent renovations. Then off to see the piazza di spagna and Spanish steps (also a little underwhelming due to the hundreds of street peddlers - they even started arguing with each other as they both offered me a rose at the same time and the church at the top of the steps was covered in scaffolding and canvas adverts!) we did see another wedding while we were there.     ... we had run out of time but they insisted they would ring us when the food was ready so we could continue with packing and cleaning and then we could just come and eat. This would have been awesome but the food want ready until after 9.00 and by the time we arrived home it was 11.00 and So I was washing well past midnight!!!     After lunch with family we headed up with a first class, drive up to the top, locals pass with Andrea and Barbara to the Tindari to have a wander and view the old church which has been closed for nearly 100 years as it is perched precariously on the clifftop.
