Laura lives primarily in Verona, but keeps an apartment on a beautiful property with vineyards and olive trees since the winery is there too. ... and really cheap! Simon and Duke really wanted to go to the De Vinci engineering museum, I've already seen it when it came to Hamilton but went again anyways just for some air conditioning! It's in a cute old church and the boys really enjoyed it so it was a good way to spend a bit of time. We walked back to our meet point to get the bus and we were really early and it was so hot! ... make sense of the layout of Venice, which is not possible from the ground. But the wind was cold...poor G thought her little nose would fall off! And when the bell rang for midday, right above our head...it was something special! We then crossed in front of the Doges Palace, past the Bridge of Sighs, and up into the Castello region. I don't think I'd realised quite how quickly the tourist streets drop away, and you find yourself in suburbia....and very quiet suburbia on New Years Eve ...

... of tourists but it was so easy to just walk up a side street and be rid of them, though it was also very handy to be able to just follow the flow so you didn't get lost. It really was just so beautiful. Each street looked like a movie set if a typical Italian street and all the little canals and bridges were fantastic.
