The cool thing about arriving in a new place at night is that when you wake up you get to see it in a whole new light. This Mediterranean fishing port on the Istrian coast is even more charming by day. After a much needed leisurely start to the day we wandered down the polished cobbled stone streets in search of bikes. For 50 kuna (about 10 New Zealand dollars) each you can hire a bike for 5 hours. ... point from Italy. So we bid farewell to ham products three times a day as our slow ferry lived up to its billing with a chug out into the Adriatic Sea. The town of Rovinj was alive and buzzing when we arrived at 9.30pm. A local group was singing very loudly on a stage by the water. People were drinking, dinning and wandering the streets. ... 500 metres down, that was me, had shut my eyes few times. Beautiful coastline. Sorrento very busy, walked streets, again typical narrow streets with lots stalls lining streets. Went to another beautiful chapel, found remains of wall that surrounded the town yet again took lots photos, hoping remember what and where they were taken! Back on bus back around winding road forgot ...

... Most of those stairs ended just below the water level so you could get your feet wet, but then had to commit to a much larger drop off to actually go further. After a few tries with different stairs, I helped him to find a small pebble beach, where he could more easily get to the water, and he spent a little time splashing and watch the crabs that were plentiful at the water's edge. Meanwhile the rest of the group was resting under umbrellas ...

... but not reinstalled leaning against a wall. As we enter the room leading to the bell tower, I spy a small area low on the wall (easy to miss) with the remnant of a mosaic in creams, oranges and browns.

We walk past what might be a large baptismal font (can't imagine what else it might be) carved from a beautiful orange stone (that happens to match what we chose back at home for our bathroom remodel). We pass through a dark doorway and climb ...
