Travel Blogs from Munich
What a great time we had in Munich! It was amazing and sad at the same time. The concentration camp really opened my eyes to exactly what happened during the holocaust. It is hard to thi that one person was responsible for all of those deaths. As far as the city itself, it was beautiful and incredibly clean. The people were very nice and the food was great!
So today we decided to visit the Dachau concentration camp. The Dachau memorial website states the following: "On March 22, 1933, a few weeks after Adolf Hitler had been appointed Reich Chancellor, a concentration camp set up for political prisoners was set up in Dachau. This camp served as a model for all future concentration camps and as a ' …
... on the way out and then headed back down the hill to the bus, and back into Munich. We got back into town around 7:30. We went to a random restaurant for dinner but I got my schnitzel that I was wanting to eat in Germany. The back to the hostel to get our luggage and head to the train station for our overnight train to Paris. We had over an hours wait at the station before our train arrived. We were very curious as to how it was going to be inside our cabin. Triple ...
... etc) but I am still not at the point where I have to satisfy that craving. I wanted Mexican food so badly after my first 5-week trip I took to India; naan + daal != tortillas + frijoles :)
German word of the day - Fahrt (Journey). OK, OK - I have to admit that I giggle a little when I see signs at the train station/gas station as you leave that say "Gut Fahrt".
... the marble was magnificent!
After visiting the palace it was time to stroll in the gardens, which turned out to be huge! I kept track of our walking distance using the RunKeeper app for my phone (geeky, I know) and it turned out that we took a 3.9 mile stroll that morning! We covered almost the entire area of the gardens, visited all of the outbuildings, and spent an enjoyable 2 hours there. We saw many ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Torbrau Munich
Great service and comfort
The hotel staff are friendly and helpful- the first time you return to the hotel they will hand you the right key without asking. The rooms are comfortable and quite spacious for such an old building- the de-luxe rooms give you a sitting area away from the bedroom and free minibar. Rooms to the front (onto "Im Tal") tend to be fairly quiet but others to either side can be noisy at night with windows open.
Breakfast is good, strawberries much of the year, and the wonderful selection of German breads is always a joy. To eat breakfast on the balcony is very pleasant.
Price: quite high.
Location right by Isartor S bahn stop is good- beware you need the entrance at the opposite end to the Deutschesmuseum one.
What a deal!
This is one of the best hotels we stayed in during our recent trip to Germany and Italy. It has all the amenities one could want in a hotel: beautiful and quiet rooms, spotless bathroom with good water pressure, and a extremely helpful, welcoming staff. The property is exquisitely decorated. The beds are very comfortable and the views are terrific. The price was terrific and the location was incredible. It's a perfect place to a stay in Munich.
Hotel Torbrau was as good as its reviews!
We were delighted with the Torbrau during our brief stay in May, 2004. All renovations are complete and the rooms and public areas are in top shape. The location is unbeatable. If you take the air-train from the airport, there is a stop almost at the hotel door. Staff was friendly and very helpful, and the breakfast was first-rate. Highly recommended.
...we had a longer stay. This hotel is terrific! Absolutely impossible to say too much about the quality of the staff, the breakfast, the location, the room, etc... A little pricey, but worth it. We had room facing the street (with a balcony) and it was completely quiet.
The Hofbrau Haus acround the corner isn't worth much...but peek in to say you've been there...there's a much, much, much better place around the corner from the Hofbrau Haus...I believe it's the Augusteiner Haus (no tourists here...and the food's actually very good and affordable).
Finally, upon departure, we learned that the S-bahn station across the street (!) would take us directly to the Airport...talk about convenience!!!
This hotel is fantastic. GReat location, GReat Service and the best breakfast anywhere. Stayed for one week in May of 2003.This hotel was close to everything and is right next to one of the gates of old Munich.
I highly recommed this Hotel
Excellent location, small but very comfortable rooms, very good breakfast.
We first stayed at the Hotel Torbrau in March 2001 based on a Karen Brown listing. We were so pleased that when we found ourselves returning to Munich in December 2003, we booked again. On this trip, my wife and I were traveling with our daughter who is in her early twenties. We were on a holiday trip to see the Minuch Christmas markets, to shop Munich, and to see some of the pleasant countyside.
Great hotel,great location
This hotel is fantastic. Location is great. Breakfast is excellent. It has more than most and is very tasty. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It is very quiet which is not always the case in Munich. I would stay here again. It is several steps from a S/U bahn station. It seemed perfect and I was completely satisfied.
Perfect in every way!
The location was absolutely perfect for sightseeing and the S bahn. The old hotel was charming but with all the modern conveniences we seem to require these days. There was even an ice machine, something I value highly and rarely find in Europe even in much higher rated hotels. The staff was friendly and very helpful in getting opera tickets, subway tickets, etc. The breakfast was delicious, better than the 16 euro ones I paid for in the other hotels we stayed in on our trip.
Great location and breakfast
We stayed at Hotel Torbrau in May 2003. Loved the hotel. The triple room we had is nice and spacious. The bathroom has 2 sinks which is great. Breakfast was wonderful. They serve salmon, brie, strawberries and cream as well as eggs and other meats. Definitely would recommend it to other people. Location is good too. Just a 5 minute walk to Marienplatz.
