We had heard that Lake Tahoe contains some of the cleanest water in the country. A familiar tag line in the brochures is that one can see a white dinner plate 70 feet underwater in Lake Tahoe. ... blind since all of the campgrounds listed in the Lonely Planet that we had checked out online were fully booked for the day we were going (we booked a spot for Wednesday but there were none one for Tuesday) and there were only a couple of walk-in grounds which do not require booking. Given the huge demand, you pretty much have to get there by 11 to guarantee a spot. We left Davis to embark on our 2-3 hour drive at around 1030 so things were not looking promising.
