      My first day!

A travel blog entry by isabellemccabe on Apr 03, 2015

Yesterday was a long long day! Although it would have been longer and harder for everyone else as they had a crossing to contend with! After a lovely few days in devon visiting family I was finally on my way. After a while in the que to get on the ship, me and Beth who I had met previously on Facebook were told to help pack down all the shops as we are having a refit, it took us all day! We went ...

After school was a bit of a battle with Laura (the oldest). Complaining and whining ensued because I didn't allow them to play after school. I know, I know.. I'm a terrible au pair! BUT the reason for not being able to play today was because ...

A travel blog entry by a_payne on Mar 22, 2015

So, I got to go to the fischmarkt (fish market) today! This is extremely famous in Hamburg and I'm really happy I got to go on the first weekend I was here. Jutta left town Saturday, so it was just Rüdiger, the kids and I. Since the market opens up so early, we had to get up at 5:30 and left a little after 6. It was already packed by the time we got there, but it was really awesome (and cold!). Of course there is a lot of fish sold there, but there were also ...

... free" from the Holy Roman Empire. In 808 Charlemagne ordered that a castle be built as a defense where the Elbe and Alster Rivers met and Hammaburg was born. There are 2300 bridges in Hamburg. It has been destroyed several times by invasion and fire. Hamburg was the port for most of the Germans and Eastern Europeans who emigrated to the United States. Some trivia for you: The "Hamburg Steak" evolved into our hamburger.
