... then decided to plug it in. Naturally the toaster did not react very well to this and the power cord exploded, ripping off one of the metal prongs. So breakfast remained decidedly toastless. When I was cleaning out the future laundry/kitchen, I came across said toaster lying on the floor. I went to task repairing it, replacing the cord with a new, unexploded one. Day 56 -- The Royal Treatment
... castle that visitors can see 12-15 rooms in the grand style when the castle was built. The walls (either silken fabric covering or exquisite wood paneling) and particularly the inlaid parquet floors in all of the rooms was outstanding. This was to be my last day in Berlin, and I decided that I wanted to see some art. It doesn't happen often at all, and it usually doesn't last long, but it happens. NewEurope Berlin
... along the road away from the crowds, when I happened upon a Soviet Memorial to the Battle of Berlin. I turned around at that point and started walking back towards the hotel, which was about 3 miles away at this point. Part of that length stretched along the Unter den Linden ('Under the linden tree') which is a long tree lined pedestrian walkway. They had spotlight for every tree with a random selection of different coloured lights. It had a very surreal feel to it.
