The Land of Chocolate, Beer and Waffles

... bit bigger than Bruges and has a similar feel to it. Brussels has a nice centre square, streets full of restaurants, and a royal palace.
Each day we returned to Bruges and wandered around the city. The centre market square is beautiful at night- all little buildings in a row all lit up. It would look beautiful with snow I would imagine. We strolled along the canals and popped into little pubs for a drink and had a great time.

Ok Im all out of Dutch sayings

... I'm wrong. Who knows? (Probably historians, or doctors shh.)

That's it, I got on a train and headed back to Amsterdam for the night. It was a whirlwind trip through Belgium but so has the rest of this trip so why would this be any different.

Oh I did stop in Antwerp and had a Belgian waffle. I had three bites and threw it away it was so sweet. But I'm sure everyone else would love it.

Update soon!

Dina

Brugge and Mussels in Brussels

... 1st original beer was invented there, it tasted like ****.

We had to walk around looking for another hostel the next day – ours was all booked, so after doing that we decided to go ultra-touristy and go on a boat ride! Apparently the boat driver was speaking English, but we couldn’t understand a word he was saying, so we just sat back, enjoyed the view and took heaps of photos because we are tourists and that’s what tourists do. After that we ...

... of like a glass cylinder really and what I think is supposed to be inside it is a piece of the cross that Jesus died on with his blood on it. There was definitely a tinge of red to it but I’m not authorized to say whether it was the real deal or not. All the same I said a little prayer for Obelix, it can’t hurt! When we got outside Witek told me he said a prayer for Obelix too and I thought that was nice that we were both on the same page.

After this we decided ...

Great little town, just like the movie but better!

Spent Tuesday in Brussels, first going to the Grand Place..the place where everyone goes. To be honest, I didn't notice a lot of other things to do in Brussels. I decided not to go the Atomium since it was farther afield. First thing in the Grand Place I did was get me some breakfast. Crossant, coffee, juice and a big omelet. Breakfast came to about $35. That’s what I get for eating in the most touristy trap in Brussels, but it put me ...

In Bruges

... ice cream combination was ridiculously delicious. After that, we continued to the main plaza (where the climax of In Bruges occurred, for those interested – it was crazy to be where it was filmed!). There, we walked around the bell tower, the Medieval Belfort, and admired all the fantastic architecture, including the beer wall that displayed every beer brewed in Belgium – a landmark in wall construction, I’m sure. We skipped lunch ...

My Favorite City in Belgium...Bruges

... for beer and the corresponding glasses...because every beer in Belgium has a specific glass that you are supposed to drink it from. We spent as much time as we could in Bruges before we had to head back to Brussels to catch our plane and we still needed more time in Brussels to meet up with a friend from Clemson. I was sad to leave Bruges. It was definitely an amazing place to visit.
Day 1 Monday 30th June

... of the rail. At Phil's suggestion decided to inspect the left-hand side of the rail only to find there were only three screws still connected on that side. So went along fixing that side also. After which we reinstated the plastic weather strip. There was also a section of the rail down by the door which had broken off so repaired that also. ( See Photo 2 ) Whilst I was working on the rail, Phil had made a start cleaning the windows, when not supporting the ladder for me.

That's one way to keep a man happy while shopping!

... once! I popped by the waffle stand for a restaurant recommendation - Gwendolen suggested a cheap Italian place. I wasn't really in the mood for it but I figured I should listen to the local - I didn't want a repeat of last night's meal. They served me some ****** bread to start - zero flavour and kind of stale. I tried the Kriek cherry beer - tasted a little like cough syrup mixed with Sprite! It's the Belgian equivalent of ...
