Put Your Head On My Shoulder

... do, like feed them from your hand and put a pellet in your mouth and have the ostrich pick it from you ("a kiss"). These suckers are sure fast and accurate (like a snake). We also have an ostrich massage. This is when you hold a bucket of pellets and 5 ostriches lunge over your shoulder and peck away at the feed you are holding in front of you. Talk about putting your head on my shoulder. It is raining today and the ostriches are wet and the ...

Going up in the world

... egg, bacon and mozzarella and Marianne's is chicken mayo, Eden has ham, cheese and tomato toasties, but that is too much for her also. After dinner we play on the beach for a bit. When we go back to the car some hobo is hanging around and asks me for money because he hasn't scratched the car. I tell him no, because that's what Louise from the wine tour told us to do, and he looks disappointed and walks away.

We drive a little way up the ...

Ostrich Farm & Cango Caves

... was more comical than anything else and I think the "riding" part was more a contest of how long I could actually stay on the ostrich before falling off (which ended up being about 45 seconds). I spent the night at a really nice guest/ farmhouse sort of place and then this morning went to the Cango Caves. The caves were really something. Although not the biggest I've been to, I think the formations here were more spectacular than those I've seen anywhere else.

Baz Bus adventures and Cape Town

... breakfast and then hopping into the luxuary bus were Elton drove us to the Cango Caves, 20km from the Lodge. He had decided that it would be a good idea for us to go on the Adventure Tour - a 1 1/2 hour tour of the caves that led 1.2km into the Swartburg Mountainside. The selling points of this tour were the nature of the tunnels which had to be climbed - including The Letterbox which was 28cm high at its largest point! Needless to say we were both very sceptical about goin on ...

Ostriches and Caves

... using paths and stairs. Halfway through the guide told us the easy part is over and it will start to get more difficult. Difficult was an understatement! I was crawling though slivers in the rocks barely wide enough for me to fit through! On part I had to climb up a shaft called "the Chimney" for about 20 feet. There was a point where I thought I was stuck. My damn shoulders are too wide! The ...

Oudstshororn - the Ostrich capital of the world

I enjoyed the day, but there was some pretty small holes and gaps to squeeze through and I'm not quite sure how some people in my group managed to get through as I was struggling sometimes.

After my brief stay in Oudtshoorn I headed to Cape Town. ... bird that is used to people. This is the bird the guide used to educate us about the Ostrich. He lifted up her wings to show us they have a two fingers with claws at the end of their wings. I petted the neck, it was really soft. The feet are huge. They will not bite you, but they could seriously injure or kill you by kicking. Their huge claw like toe can rip right into you. We got to stand on some Ostrich ...
