... a great time we had. On our tour bus with our young bubbly guide, Lucy, we picked up various other tourists as we went through the north of the city past the 2008 Olympic village including the 'Birds Nest' and 'Water Cube'. With the bus full next stop was the The Great Wall. I sat next to a lovely man from Utah who is over here having a business meeting, he's a director of Pharmaceutical studies at Utah University. ... It was awesome!

These markets were a really fun experience for us all--very unlike anything back in the states! Every vendor tries desperately to get you to buy their products. It's so chaotic. Once you find something you like, they'll pull out their calculator and say something along the lines of "OHHH you're so beautiful. Normally we ask price like this (punches in 900) but ...

    Beijing II

... expected it to be like the Temple of Heaven, in that we would be able to get away from the crowds and have a nice walk. Instead we spent three hours fighting our way through the biggest crowd of people I've ever seen. It was like being in a 6 mile queue around a lake. We even had to queue to find a place to sit and eat our ice creams. Again we had just bought an entry ticket, without paying to go into any of the buildings, which is just as well ...
