... by dozens of other boats festooned with colorful, logo-filled umbrellas, full with Chinese tourists gabbing away on cell phones having super soaker water fights. Old women paddle out to sell us food or beer and every 20 minutes or so there is a contrived “waterfall” where our raft bumps along and a photographer takes our picture and trues to sell us an instant photo. One of the malls was I guess 4 -5 km long. During my long walk I was very casually greeted about 8 times by various women with a “hello how are you, where are you from. “ If I answer Australia they say “Oh very nice country! Howaryagoing mate? Are you from Sydney? Melbourne? I would like to practice my ...

... There seems to be a bigger difference here between areas of the city and the people living there. People in Korea seemed generally fairly well-off, almost everybody had a massive Samsung phone and appearance was clearly very important. In Beijing there's a big difference between the rich-looking areas and the little side streets where people wonder along in their pyjamas and use public toilets because they don't have their own bathroom at home. People also like ...
