Volterra
... But seriously, it was indescribable. I'll post photos but they won't do the place justice.
After Volterra (sigh, I could have stayed there forever), we went to San Gimignano - another amazing hilltop town from the middle ages, with 14 of its 70 towers still standing. We hung around there for awhile and I tried some amazing local wine (it's right on the outskirts of Chianti) and had to buy a couple of bottles.

Florence and Naples
... but this is the genius of Giovanni. Napoli Sotterranea is a tour of the old underground water systems, built by the Greeks around 300BC and all underneath the city to distribute the water, which contracted diseases and then closed down. It was re-used also as a rubbish dump and bunkers for the wars. You also take a tour of the surrounding area in which houses were built in to an ancient theatre in which you can still see the foundations and shape. Amazing stuff ...

The journey to the aire in Florence again gave us cause for fear and fright! Nick managed to negociate around Florence incredible well. The Italians are known for their bombastic approach to driving but in city centres they seem even worse!! Even the roads have decided it's not worth having markings on them!
