There are a lots of cultural attractions, temples and garden. Kanazawa seems to be an highlight for visitors. Here a re some attraction that we will not miss during our stay there:
- The famous Kenroku-en, the fine former castle garden that dates from the 17th century,
- The former geisha and samurai districts.
- Plenty of garden and temples
- final breakfast at Takayama
- beautiful mountain views from train on journey to Kanazawa
- classic lunchbox for Daniel; pull the string and the box heats the rice/beef ; well received!
- dropped gear at Hotel Miyako then onto loop ...

On returning to Takayama we decided to climb up to the highest point where Takayama castle once stood over looking the town( good aerobic exercise). The climb took us through the forest and we again were charmed by the most brilliant colours that nature has graced us with on this trip. ... Aside from gardening, Kane is a wood carver and an accomplished horseman. He no longer owns horses or rides but he continues to love horses. Akiko served tea and a local cake made with red bean paste. After our tour of the upstairs we went into their formal entertainment room. The table had a magnificent carving under the glass. The room also had a beautiful view of the garden, a wood carving of 9 horses, a Buddhist alter and a lovely carpet. We then went ...
... a workshop to learn how washi—a thick, fibrous paper made from mulberry bark—is created. We then had an opportunity to make our own paper. This is the paper that is used all over Japan to line the screens of the sliding doors. After making the paper we understood how thick, fibrous and durable it is.
We headed back to Kanazawa. For dinner we decided to search for a restaurant where we could get some beef. I will let you know if we were successful ...
