We are now in Kanazawa, north and west of Kyoto. We came up yesterday by a train called Thunderbird and I thoroughly enjoyed the views as we travelled close to the water along the east coast and then moved up into more mountainous areas and saw plenty of picture postcard trees. Kanazawa seems quite wealthy and is beautifully kept - at least from what we have seen so far. There is a castle nearby the Hotel Resol Trinity, where we are staying, and next to the castle is one of ...

Simply fantastic choice and stunning quality. The oysters are big, twice the the size of Sydney rock oysters. Every other fish possible is represented. Important to myself is the 'Fungus Stall'. Here there are ten times as many spore created gourmet delights in Kanazawa than in Canberra. It is also the home of the ...

In Gokayama we visit the largest house of the Gassho-style at 1200 sq. feet. Up until 1910 is was the home of 38 members of an extended family, today there are only 4 adults and 2 children living in the house.

This area of Japan is known for it's unique tofu. It’s thicker and firmer than most other tofu. After we enjoy a wonderful vegetarian lunch that included tofu and tons of unique vegetables from the region, ...

... Cappuccino but a current model. There was one microcar that was turbocharged, 4 wheel drive, all chromed up and was called the 'Standard'. I'm looking forward to the 'Special'. The premium Toyota sedan range seems to be the 'Crown' which looks like the car for dignitaries. Lexus is also in the market. Saw my first convertible in Kanazawa, convertibles are very rare here. Building construction here is done in a very refined manner. Every site ...
