    ... used to be is now inhabited by the Matsue Museum, as well as beautiful park area, including some lovely Chionanthus retusus trees, which are currently in bloom and look amazing. Also many azaleas flowering and a few camellias just starting to make an appearance. There is a beautiful forest area around the castle, and it makes a pleasant walk to travel around the moat area, around the perimeter of the castle walls.

    ... up a main hall that was 48 meters (about 157 feet) tall, twice the height it is now. Other stories place the height of older versions of the main hall of Izumo Taisha at 96 meters (about 315 feet)! This latter story matches the myth that the shrine was said to have stretched all the way to the heavens. There was a very nice one-tenth scale model displaying what it might have looked like.

    This morning after a quick trip to the post office to stock up on some money we caught the Lakeline bus to the castle. The bus was a very cute old fashioned tram. The castle was incredible. We were so lucky to get there with the cherry blossoms in full bloom and a lovely warm sunny day. We even luckily saw a ninja there and had some photos taken.
